Ticketing worry

If you have had a deposit for your ticket paid, is there any way the person who paid it can cancel it? Our tickets were bought in a group of six, where the person who paid has since split up with one of our other group, and is no longer coming to the festival. I highly doubt that person would even think of doing such a thing as cancelling the other 5 tickets, but is it something they can potentially do, or is my place secure until balance week?

blimey what a nightmare. I'd ring See immediately. Thank god I was the golden child who got through for our group this year!

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks if you get through you should be treated as the golden one! I managed to get 18 tickets this year so working on a pint from each of the other 17...

You feel like the king of the universe when you send that beautiful message to everyone... "guys, I've got the tickets"

and then are gripped by the fear in case you've somehow fucked something up!

See Tickets are surely on dodgy ground by allowing the main buyer to cancel other people's tickets? Each registration is linked to an email address so in my opinion the only ways to cancel your ticket should be:

1. Via an email from the registered email address linked to the deposit.

2. By not paying the balance.

I'm pretty sure that the only way to 'cancel' a deposit is to not pay the balance and the refund is then automatic.  Thus your ticket is secure until the balance deadline.  Provided you pay it off, no one can cancel it on you.*

*UNLESS while paying off the balance, you select for several tickets to go to one address and the one whose address you used cancels and refunds.  Been there. That can get a bit squeaky bum and technically someone could be malicious with it but that's about the only circumstance I can think of where someone could pull an 'eff you' with your ticket.

Happened to me when I accidently booked tickets for Glasgow instead of Manchester on a "sell out instantly" type of gig. Was mega lucky and got straight back in. Luckily when I rang see the man refunded me the glasgow ones which they didn't have to do (he had to check with the venue management and ring me back). Presumably cos it'd sold out in 10 mins so they knew they'd be able to get rid of them.

jesus I can only imagine how your stomach must have dropped when it dawned on you....

i managed to get all ours this year, 10 of us. sooo stressful as our group used to be just 6 and could get them in one hit. (before they changed it to 4) so hopefully 9 free pints for me :-)

You can contact see tickets and cancel deposits anytime. My brother in law who got tickets for our group suddenly died 2 weeks later. I contacted See, for his wife, who told me to just send the region numbers to be cancelled and the refunds will be put back in the bank.

I was the lead booker and paid for 6 deposits on my card.  It was me who had to cancel a ticket the other day as one of our party can't go.  It actually is quite dodgy ground really.... I didn't even do it via telephone or email.  I did it via the 'contact us' option on the website and had an email the next day to say the ticket was cancelled and I would be refunded within 3-5 days

The last 2 years I have been the one.

This year I had them bought by 9:02 and the email confirmation by 9:10, but last year I was sure I fucked up. No confirmation for a good 9 hours. That was worrying

Surprised to read this. Did you have to provide any proof that the person whose ticket you were cancelling was aware you were doing so?

I booked a group of 6 deposits as well, and just last month was asked by one of the group if they could cancel their (newly) exes ticket (Malicious as it would be to do so, it actually would be deserved under the circumstances).

I told her no. I assumed there'd be no way to just cancel somebody else's ticket without them knowing like that - it wouldn't really be right - if it is so easy, that is pretty shocking.

I got through and the deposits were paid from my card. Couple in the group have broken up, I'm under massive pressure to keep the ex-boyfriend's deposit when it's refunded to me. I don't know the full circumstances surrounding the break up (intentionally, it sounds messy as fuck). Don't know who I'm being a dick to if I contact the ex-boyfriend (who I don't know) and give him the money back. Awks!

It will only be refunded if he doesn't pay... hopefully he has other mates going and pays his deposit, and you lot don't bump into him.

I'm pretty certain he's not going. Never done a festival before, none of his mates are going that we know of, and I've been told he's not going. Probably just give her his refund and tell her it's her choice what happens with it.

That's it - treat it like a hot potato that really should be in someone else's hands. Smart move. Why take the rap if it's nothing really to do with you? It doesn't make any sense to me not to give it to lady in question so that she can make the decision what to do with it. Personally I'd favour going gambling with it.

Nope - basically just gave them the registration number and name of the person who can't go.... who happens to now be my ex but that ISN'T why I cancelled.... honest!  He couldn't go before he  became my ex.  I obviously needed the booking reference too and my own email address.  They replied saying the deposit would be refunded in 3-5 working days to the debit card ending in xxxx  and it has just hit my bank account today

Yeah, a good plan to pass the problem on. It isn't your doing or your falling out, so it shouldn't be your problem here.

I did this but spent £800 on 4 Reading Tickets instead of Leeds ones on my mates mum card when we were about 17, luckily they let us swap them for Leeds tickets as it was quite a common mistake...

Holy shitsticks.

edit:  The lack of checking is worrying.  I trust all of my crew without doubt but I made such a terrible mess of booking the first batch of tickets this year that it'd take a chart and bits of string to work out who paid for whose deposit in the first place.  Neither of the card holders were in the group that their card paid for so billing addresses etc were all wrong.  That was a fearful time waiting for the money to leave the accounts.

Get this. Our group of 6 were trying and none of us, apparently, could get through.

Sat in utter dejection and depression for over an hour.

Gutted.

Then my phone pinged.

I had an email.

Checked it and it was a Glastonbury Festival payment confirmation.

WTF?!

Stared at it for minutes, confused.

One of our group HAD got through and made the payment, but the lying fucker thought it would be funny to pretend / message he hadn't and let us wait to find out we were going when the confirmation email came through.

He even pretended he didn't know what I was talking about when I messaged him!

I had to ring the beautiful twat and demand in a hissy fit WTF was going on.

Why would you do that? At least have the lead bookers in the groups they are buying for & use their reggy numbers first & others as additional tickets. It saves half of the payment form because it's already prefilled with the card holders address & makes it much quicker

My utter delight and enjoyment in reading that story makes me wonder how I would have felt, had I been in your shoes, Woffster.

I'd like to think that, on receiveing the email, I'd have smiled wryly at the cheeky scamp's tremendous prank.

Or immediately driven over to his place and twatted him.

Definitely one of the two.

:)
