Well you know, Betamax was the better quality of videotape :) It was the porn industry using VHS which led to that becoming the dominant video. Teletext rules!

At least, that's the rumour. Others say it was due to VHS tapes having longer recording times. Any questions on videotapes, please do not hesitate to ask me :)

Do they do Born of Frustration much these days? I can safely say thats one of my all time favourite songs. Couldnt ask for a better start to me Friday at Glasto than hearing that

Depends. They did it in Manchester last month but I can only remember it once in the previous 4 times I had seen them. It was there all the time pretty much though before hand.

They literally decide what they are going to play on the day.

They played it at Academy 2 last month and Delamere Forest last year. They did not play it at the Castlefield or on any of the 2 previous appearances at the Arena in Manchester. Don't think they played it at V when I seen them.

To be fair I must have seen James 15 times over the years and the set lists have been totally different, even when on the same tour. Can't remember the last time I seen they play How Was It For You, or even She's A Star for that matter

Sit Down, Laid, Born of Frustration, Tomorrow, Come Home, Shes a Star, Say Something, Sometimes.

This is the extent of my James knowledge. If we got a few of these id be very happy. If you could recommend one album to start with, what would you recommend?

I'd implore anyone who likes James from their greatest hits to check out ’La Petite Morte' as that is a superb album and shows they aren't a retro 90’s band doing the circuit just to milk their past glory.

From memory the opening slot is ~45 minutes, isn't it? They'll do 2-3 off 'Girl...' as it's their current album but expect the rest will largely be greatest hits.

I have heard of James (obviously) but never really listened to them (knowingly), thought I'd give them a go on Apple Music (singles collection or similar) and it turns out I know the majority of the songs.

I will definitely go and see them first thing Friday. Good stuff.

I saw them years ago at a Solar Eclipse festival. Very mixed crowd, certainly not a hardcore fanbase, they played Sit Down - but a stripped down, slow, semi acoustic version. I've considered them a bunch of pretentious w*nkers ever since.

Don't ever go to a live gig, then. Keep it to yourself but it's a little-known secret that bands don't always play the album versions when they play live!

Alternatively take an MP3 player and listen to the album version of the song they start to play. That way you won't be disappointed by their brazen pretentiousness at daring not to adhere so strictly to the 'correct' version of the song,

I'll bear that in mind.

However, when a band that is 'commonly' known for a massive anthem, and then play a gig that was selling tickets cheap to ram in the general public to cover the costs, then play it at the end of a set in which they could have had everyone singing along  finishing the gig on a high, but choose to play a limp, weak version that makes everyone shuffle away disappointed, then its maybe not as 'clever' as they think.

Or maybe they've got so many other hits that they can afford to change up a setlist and not just trot out the same predictable set just to appease those who only care about hearing the one song they'd heard of before the gig?

I love the acoustic, Larry and Tim version of "Sit Down". When they did it at the Albert Hall about 4 years ago, with a fanfare from the upper tier and the two of them playing while ambling into the back of the arena before climbing on the mixing desk, to launch the show it was utterly magical. Hilarious that James are getting called out for not playing their anthem properly but Radiohead are always given a free pass to ditch all of their more authentic tunes.

    • There’s a few in there which could go either way or I’m not bothered if I miss but think that’s now be pretty set.  Few rubbish clashes like Kasabian/Loyle plus Reytons/Pixies/CMAT but I’ll head with the lads to the most popular one.   (And yes no Byrne or Twigs, just can’t into either)
    • I saw somewhere they were advertising Lewis' day as him live on Glagow Green and only mentioned Amy Mcdonald and CMAT as support, 0 mention of the festival  I completely agree this will probably be the last one which is a shame because the first 2 seemed so promising and now its turned into middle of the road rubbish with acts you can see everywhere else  Anyone know if the BBC are covering it next week as it'll be fascinating to see how full (or empty) it is
    • Did anyone catch Viagra Boys last night? A rollicking good set, with a little more free jazz than I expected.   if you’re up early, Walabi is doing a super job in the Cupra Pulse. There till six.

    • They really dropped a bollock on their lineup this year. They went with Richard Ashcroft because he did well as Oasis support - But realistically, you're not getting 50k people in a field to hear the 4 or 5 songs they know at like £70+ a ticket. Can't get my head around the Kasabian booking, either. Finsbury Park was a bold move for them, and yes it sold out, but I think you're more likely to see people make the journey to London if they want to see them rather than Glasgow. A second similar capacity show was always going to be a big ask for them.
