You didn't actually write the above but I just remembered I was supposed to come back to you with my thoughts on it;

I still couldn't really connect with it. I certainly enjoyed it more than I remember, especially the last four songs. I'd probably have given it a bit more time but then AMSP hit and it illustrated how much TKOL isn't my thing when it comes to Radiohead.

All that being said Codex is definitely in my top ten.

There are some decent songs on the album but the whole thing just does nothing for me. It completely washes over me, which is the last thing I'd expect from a RH album. I find it really inoffensive and a bit dull. AMSP is a hundred times better.

Codex is a good tune but top 10 is pushing it for me :P

Been thinking about my ideal setlist for the Roundhouse show. If we got anything like this i dont think i would ever recover.

Act 1 (with full string section)

Burn The Witch

Daydreaming

Tinker Tailor

Glass Eyes

Jigsaw Falling into Place

How to Disappear Completely

The Present Tense (Choir)

Nude (Choir)

Decks Dark (Choir)

Pyramid Song (Choir)

Reckoner

Fake Plastic Trees

The Numbers

Spectre

Act 2 (Classic Setup)

Bloom

Ful Stop

National Anthem

Let down

Identikit

Weird Fishes (Arpeggi)

Desert Island Disk

Idioteque

Paranoid Android

Encore

True Love Waits

Everything in its right place

Surely Identikit would have to be with the choir too?

I've swung back toward a negative outlook this morning (sorry).

Surely they'd be headlining if they were playing. A band of their stature with the history they have at the festival fully deserves all of the hype and prestige that comes with a headline slot and both they and the Eavii would be acutely aware of this. Radiohead headlining Glastonbury is a Thing.

To be a surprise sub is nonsensical, no other band of their size would do it. Would Muse play warm up for another act? By putting them on sub you would essentially be implying that Radiohead are not good enough to headline your festival (secret sets in the middle of the afternoon on the Park were a little different).

Also consider that big headline bands are becoming harder to find. If you were in charge of booking would you not rather save them for next year rather than waste and diminish a potential future headliner by demoting them to a warm up act this year?

Would love to be wrong, but I just can't see it.

Your points are all completely valid and exactly the same argument we would all be making if it wasn't for the suggestions from Neil and other sources (remember the 6music news person saying they thought Radiohead play a secret set?), not to mention the fact there has been no strong evidence linking another act with the sub headline position. Disclosure are only there by default at the minute.

In an ideal world, they will do a set before Adele with the orchestra/choir deal, consisting of mainly new album material and then a few older songs that would fit the setup (i.e. Reckoner, How to Disappear, Nude, Fake Plastic Trees(?), No Surprises(?!) etc.) and THEN come back next year for a full shebang headline set.

That's the dream anywho.

Gotta remember that Coldplay were apparently initially lined up to sub/co-headline with Bruce Springsteen in 2009. Fuck knows why it didn't happen (maybe Neil knows) but it's something they've toyed with before. The Libertines thing last year, although being a last minute solution to a problem, can also possibly factor in to it, as the reception to their appearance went down amazingly, and might be something they want to repeat. I have no idea if it's gonna happen - just a few more weeks, if that, until we find out if it's at all a possibility - but it definitely can't be outright written off, especially with Neil's bits of info and other things seemingly pathing way for something not yet announced to appear in that sub slot

Also with the Eavi apparently already having all of next years headliners in place, maybe it was a case of Radiohead making their availability known too late and there being no room for them to fit in, so they were offered a lower slot this year. All wild speculation of course, but hey ho, it's what we do best here

I still think that could be the case. They said last summer that they had the next two years worth of headliners lined up, so Radiohead may have arrived too late to fit into that picture.

People are taking it for granted that if they don't play this year, they will headline next. They haven't headlined in 13 years (which includes a greatest hits album and 2 studio records) so I'm not making any assumptions whatsoever they will headline again.

Going back and forth on the possibility of them playing.

If they really are 'subbing' Adele then you can definitely rule them out for 2017 - as far as non-Radiohead fans and the press would be concerned that would just be a repeat headliner. Also I can't see any reason why they wouldn't have announced this, no exclusivity deals to get round and shows sold out almost instantaneously.

If they are doing a surprise set then there are fairly limited places and times it could be, the options have already been covered in this thread and I know the Other opening slot has already been mentioned, but maybe there will be a suspiciously late start on the Pyramid this year? Still liking the Hell stage at 4am idea, and logistically I imagine that would work well with crowd control already in place in the SE corner and the lateness reducing demand.

Third option is that some (or all) the band will be there doing something else entirely - Bowie tribute at the Bandstand....?!

I agree with you about 2017 if they're playing an announced set this year.

But as for them not having been announced so far, all of the same thing applies with most of the other acts that haven't been announced so far, so I don't think the fact they've not yet been announced is proof that they won't be announced.

This is the most sensible thing I have read on this matter.

Good point, could also work well in reducing the number of unpaid deposits if they keep up the trend of huge acts being announced after the inital poster (not intentional last year, but still...)

Not sure whether this has been mentioned already (too many pages of album reviews to scroll through), but Clashfinder now has Special Guests subbing Adele at the Pyramid on Saturday. Is Halvin ITK?

Apologies if this is old news.

I'm not sure if you realise, but at the moment Clashfinder is just random people adding guesses from here.  Unfortunately, nothing on Clashfinder is news, it's just a (very good) way of organising what we already know.

Fair enough. I didn't know it had got all Wiki. I'll return to my cave.

Yeah unfortunately whatever happens this year, I can't see them headlining next year anyway :( even if they do an unannounced secret set in the middle of the night tbh, which i think is likely.

I think Halvin still gets involved once the full lineup is out, but ignores it before then, as it's just a waste of effort - if the end goal is getting an accurate timetable whilst being at the festival, rather than a speculative tool.

Am I the only one who thinks that if they sub this year they could headline next year (or the festival after that)?  Or would it be a bit like Faithless subbing - they subbed again but never seem like they'll be given the pyramid headliner.  For most bands they can be high up the pyramid and then 'grow' to headline status fairly quickly.  Might be a factor in how Radiohead play a sub spot - maybe heavier on their new stuff with a few nods to earlier albums - that they could then come back and play some of the drooled over setlists posted above sharpish as headliner

Possible Theory # 3726282:

They are splitting up after touring this latest album as has been muted, and the 2017 Glastonbury headliners are finalised already, and 2018 is a fallow year (alternative Glastonbury aside for a moment).

This would mean that 2016 would be their final chance to headline, but they weren't sure on a completion for A Moon Shaped Pool, so did not want to commit to headlining this year, and the bookers snapped the others up as didn't want to be in another Prince situation of last year.

As things has transpired, they could have headlined this year after all, but have come to an agreement with the festival to sub, as they want one last Glastonbury swan song, and this is the only possibility left.

Yeah I have a feeling this year is a bit of a swansong for them. The above combined with the fact that all those unreleased songs have ended up on AMSP does feel like they're tying up loose ends.

I hope we're both wrong though.

Of course if RH knew this was their last year, why is this tour not advertised as a farewell tour...?

I was thinking something like this.

My own personal thoughts are unannounced, special guest performance this year to showcase the new album and they somewhere along the road over the next year, they announce the split and that their last ever show will be at Glastonbury 2017 where they do a full set.

That would be perfect but I am still undecided. At the moment I am in the 'I lucked out and got a ticket to the Roundhouse so I could care less' camp but I would love to see them play at Glastonbury more than anything. I started watching G on BBC in 2003 purely because they headlined and have always wanted to see it for myself in the flesh. I remember my dad coming into my bedroom in 2003 shouting 'turn that fucking noise off' or something similar, uneducated prat that he is :P

Radiohead don't seem like the type of act to announce a farewell tour - just do the tour and bow out I'd have thought (if that is what happens which I really hope it's not)

    • Yeh, the quiet camping also seems to be on the same side (broadly) as the bits of the festival that go on the latest (Far Out / Chai Waalahs / RTT until 4am). We're always in Tangerine Fields which is right behind the main stage and as soon as that and Rising Stage are done it's pretty quiet (midnight onwards) which I'd guess is pretty similar if you can hack taking all your gear from the car past the big tree in the middle and into the campsites that side.
    • Can't see Bimble line up anywhere - am I being dense and missing an obvious release somewhere?
    • Not expecting a tour imminently but Peter Gabriel would fit the vibes magnificently.
    • I have but a very long time ago and can remember nothing about it at all. Which I suppose is a review of sorts
    • Addison Rae has 33m instagram followers, Slayyyter 667k. Also 15 to 7,5 million spotify listeners with Addison's last release being more than a year ago. Obviously these metrics aren't everything, but still there is a big gap in popularity between the two.
