Radiohead touring in 2016

if there's one thing i've learnt about Radiohead being an avid fan, it's that they're absolute motherfuckers. think it's an almost certainty that they'll do a somewhat more sizeable tour next year (although i don't expect anything massive) but these dates thus far are just frustrating. why do bands think London is the entirety of the UK - especially a band from the fucking UK?!

The problem with that slot is it almost necessitates the band playing a greatest hits set, which Radiohead probably won't want to do. Can you imagine half the festival turning up to check out the 'TBA' band, Radiohead walk on stage, everyone starts chanting for Creep, and they open with Feral? Ugh!

yep, a smaller secret set somewhere in the corner of the festival - fine, do whatever you want (as they did in 2011) - but on the Pyramid stage, in front of thousands of people both in front of the stage and at home, a lot of them just waiting for Adele? it'd go down horrendously, especially if they kept up their TKOL tour trend and played mostly new album and very few hits

I hate that London. Coming over here, taking all our jobs and women and Radiohead live dates

They did it at Reading 2009 (playing a crowd friendly hits set) so no reason why they couldn't do it now in my opinion

this is true, and there's always a chance that their new album will be a bit more radio friendly than TKOL so it could work, but they'd have to be willing to bust out all of those songs that they've made a point of distancing themselves from and played very sparingly in recent years. god i want it to happen, but it seems like the opposite of what Radiohead would fancy doing in 2016

The "booked as back-up for Adele and now aren't doing it but will do it next year" theory makes the most sense to me. 

They may build next year's bigger tour around the Glastonbury date. The fact that they're playing the Roundhouse indicates to me that they're in the 'play whatever we like at intimate shows' mode, rather than the 'mass appeal festival friendly' mode. 

It will be interesting to see the setlist for the festivals they are headlining in the summer. Maybe they think they can get away with a weirder setlist in Europe. They may know the kind of reaction a UK audience will give a non hits-filled set.

I saw them play in Italy on the King of Limbs tour. They played Exit Music (which isn't even a weird choice for a setlist, but maybe isn't a 'hit') and you could hear a fucking pin drop in the quiet bits. I saw them 2 weeks later in London and during the same song the girl next to me phoned her mum.

A bit like when N.E.R.D. were the 'special guests'. Although I don't remember anyone shouting anything at Pharrell other than 'GET OFF! YOUR MIC'S TURNED OFF! WE CAN'T HEAR YOU!'

2009 was a weird spell though. It was right in between albums. Bands tend to play more 'greatest hits' style sets when they aren't particularly touring a recently released album. If they play this year they will definitely play 4-5 (at least) tracks off the new album, + a few from TKOL, + a few from In Rainbows. That doesn't leave much room for what most would consider 'crowd friendly' tunes, especially if they play the Libertines slot and have an hour 15 minutes set (or whatever the length was).

i wouldn't expect it to be too far out, but i'd expect a big chunk of new album. pretty hard to predict though. excited to see the setlists once they start touring

I'd expect 5-6 new album tracks, a few of the staples (National Anthem, Idiotech, etc). Then some of the big hitters but rotated ie Karma Police on Thursday, Street Spirit Friday etc.

It would be a real shock if they did the same set every night.

Started listening to Radiohead properly for the first time recently and I just can't make it past The Bends. It's on repeat at the moment. Given indie rock was my 'gateway' drug in terms of getting into music, it's just a perfect album. I really need to properly crack on with the other stuff mind, as I feel bad that I can't do a list.

I'm trying to stop myself thinking too hard about setlist unless I manage to get tickets! It'd be my first time seeing Radiohead too so I'd want them to cram everything in.. although I'd love to hear Paranoid Android

Doing my best. Given OK Computer 2-3 goes and very much enjoyed it. Listened to quite a bit on shuffle of various albums, just need to pin down some time to give each album a proper listen, especially given that they're unlikely to play anything more than 2-3 from The Bends/OKC. Took the plunge with NOS Alive, in the main because of the sheer amount of love that Radiohead get on here.

There's a member's bar at either side of the balcony but the rest is open for all. You have to buy a balcony ticket if you want to be on the balcony - it's not like KOKO where you have a GA ticket and can stand on whatever level you like. There's a few rows of seats and then balcony standing behind that. It's a good view up there. My one criticism of the Roundhouse is that the floor standing area is flat, so if you're towards the back you can see fuck all.

I'm already stressing about this somewhat. Well, not stressing - I'm stressing about tickets - but thinking about. Trying to guess which night will get the best set list

It's worth the effort. The Bends is probably my 5th favourite album of theirs and I still really like it

yep it'd be just my luck that i'd go to the night they decide to play solely from TKOL and the new album and then find out they played something like Fake Plastic Trees and How To Disappear Completely on another night
