Much stronger start than last year, I'm glad to see Rob has gone back to booking decent bands as well as kitsch & dance/hip hop. It's that overall mix that makes Bestival unique & it was certainly lacking last year.

Couldn't agree more. If the final headliner isn't a headscratcher then this could be a brilliant year.

i refer you back to Elton John having headlined a few years ago. not that it's gonna happen, but how would Billy Joel headlining be in any way different?

Because Elton has the hits & is a 'British music icon' for want of a better word. He also has that over the top kitsch style/appeal that goes well with Bestival, Billy Joel does not tick any of those boxes.

hmm i kind of disagree that Billy Joel would't work, but it's a moot point anyway as he definitely won't be doing it judging by those tour dates (and i doubt RDB could afford him as i'm guessing The Cure are the costly headliner this year)

agree that the lineup so far is much stronger than last year, and more importantly, more Bestival-ey. there definitely felt like there was something missing from the lineup last year and it just didn't feel quite right

The final headliner really has me guessing - makes me think it's got to be someone leftfield

Or

...

Radiohead

not a chance it'll be Radiohead now - The Cure will've cost a bomb, and that'd be far too mopey/non upbeat headliners for Bestival, plus they definitely would've announced them first (i mean, they've got no reason not to). think it'll be a slightly smaller act, although who i really couldn't say

I would think that Major Lazer kind of cover both the dance and hip-hop bases as far as headliners are concerned, and the Cure cover the vintage and rock bases, so I'm guessing someone current and pop.

I don't disagree with 'pop' but I'm not sure about current.

Something in the back of my mind keeps saying Chaka Khan. Though I don't know if she'd be 'big enough' as such.

Maybe this will be the year we finally get Kylie.

It has to be some blunder like the past three years.

Fergie, I'm guessing. :P

If an extremely rare and amazing appearance by Missy Elliott counts as a "blunder", then I can't wait to see what he pulls out of the bag this year!

Its orite I guess, apart from the Cure, nothing to exciting. A shame, but think i need a bit more to make the trip, I really wanna go again but at £200 and the effort to get there, I've got to get value on acts I like.

For me: Animal Collective, Bicep, Camo & Krooked, Damian Marley, Eats Everything, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Kurupt FM, London Elektricity, Shy FX, Skream, The Human League, Wolf Alice, The Cure, Hot Chip. Which isn't bad but it needs a bit more

Also I am struggling with the idea of Major Lazer being a headliner, I just don't get them live. Its a novelty afternoon act and I wouldn't have really thought them big enough.

I agree I really dont think the line up so far is that good at all.

With regards to Major Lazer, I had a feeling it might happen after they were announced for Benicassim. They played in 2014 on the main stage either second or third down. I went with my group of mates and thought they were awful but they pulled a big crowd and seemed to go down really well overall. I think they appeal greatly to a lot of the bestival crowd (mainly the younger ones). I can see why they've been booked, because I imagine they're cheap and fit bestivals general criteria of having a dance headliner.

The Cure seems like an interesting choice to me. I was there in 2011 and although I loved it, the crowd around me did not seem as into it as I was. Although the torrent of hits in the last hour did appease most around me. Maybe they are playing Bestival Toronto too and it was part of a deal?

Could the final headliner be The XX, they are due to release a new album this year? Would be about time for their move to headliner status?

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
