I do find the lack of somewhat heavier rock/riff bands my biggest gripe with the festival.. i would love them to book more of the american type psych and rock bands (thee oh sees, DIIV, BRMC, moon duo, ty segall, wavves, etc..) .

??? Nothing like a bit of Subday morning rock'n'roll!

It will depend on how I am feeling by Sunday morning. I was going to go and see the Smyths to wake me up / keep me going, but I'd rather see someone who isnt a tribute act.

I am hoping to see Rival Sons. I just think the atmosphere later if they were in the JP would have been miles better.

Beyond Foo's, Motorhead and DFA 1979, anyone got any suggestions for bands of the heavier persuasion that I may not know of?

Thanks in advance!

yup, as others have stated, only Rival Sons and Slaves(at a push)

There so few heavier bands it makes you wonder why they bother with the few that they do book.

Rival Sons are well worth watching tho

Not really riffs, but Fat White Family are pretty heavy in a grungey sort of way.

Enter Shikari? Not everyone's cup of tea but pretty damn heavy.

I 100% agree with that, thatcrazypenguin, I generally like the heavier side of music and it is on the whole pretty under-represented at Glastonbury. One of the very very few criticisms of the festival that I have.

Would love to see someone like RATM headline the Pyramid!

We really don't need to get back into the 'heavy headliner' argument again or we'll lose another 15 pages.

We do however need a few more Rock/heavy music bands throughout the bill. Not everyone is an indie or dance fan.

I would say that the bulk of festival goers are mainly Rock, Indie or Dance fans(maybe rap as well)

I know a lot of people knock them, but Reading/Leeds seem to get the Rock/indie/dance balance about right.

(And before anyone says it, I'm talking about the balance of genres, I don't mean we should turn Glastonbury into a place where 16 year old go to celebrate the end of their exams)

This.

There's an absolute dearth of proper psych/quality rock'n'roll this year. King Gizzard and Goat are the only ones I can think of in the line-up.

There are too many shopping centre/V Festival rock bands like Foo Fighters and the Vaccines. So MOR.

I agree with all of the above. As much as i like Indie and the odd bit of dance, i grew up in to punk and heavy rock and i think the same goes for a large majority of other Glasto goers. Would be nice to see a bit more of it on the line up and i would say psych rock fits the balance perfectly.

Looking forward to Rival Sons' morning slot, a nice wake up call! Agree that rock is under represented but at least there seem to be a few more bands each year, and having Metallica and Motorhead on the main stage is a big step up.

Would like to see at least one bar that is rock orientated as well I'm pretty sure that would do well over the weekend.

Anyway I'm off to Bloodstock this year for my metal fix, I shall take what I'm given at Glastonbury and be grateful for it.

One of Shangri-Hell's microvenues this year is a punk bar :).

I kind of agree that rock is under-represented, but on the other hand I quite like that Glasto is a different musical experience for me - so much of the music I go to see live is of that genre (going to Download tomorrow, Reading in August) that it's nice to mix it up a bit.

That said, I will be seeing Motorhead, DFA 1979 and Foos, haha.

There's somewhere doing punk stuff in Shangri La apparently. Not necessarily heavy of course but should have plenty of riffage on tap. It'll be interesting to see how literally they take the punk theme as it could also take in other related stuff from the era and later stuff like Nirvana or pop punk I suppose.

As someone mentioned before, Slaves and King Gizzard definitely!

The Fall will also be good, plenty of riffage in some of their songs, there's a lot on William's Green too, TOY and The Bevis Frond stand out
