We debate this every year but for some reason American festivals mute the crowd, or set up the audience microphone very different to how we do in the UK / the BBC do it.

Watch boygenius set, you can clearly hear the moments where they want you to hear the crowd and where they want you to hear the artist.

The BBC set up their audio in a completely different way, they want the artist to be drowned out by cheers or whatever - it’s how we do things here. I think in the US they prefer to put the focus on the artist.

Glastonbury has the BBC recording for TV so is made incredibly well, whereas Coachella’s is bare bones just for a Youtube stream. Completely night and day really, which unfortunately makes a lot of the Coachella footage look a lot worse than it undoubtedly is, especially when it comes to crowd interaction. Glastonbury’s footages makes it feel like you’re actually there.

Yeah I also think people are watching the wrong bits and forming an opinion. Rosalia clearly popping and the crowd absolutely belting.

Same with Bad Bunny, crowd absolutely belting every tune.

Hoping to see Labrinth at Glastonbury, his show at Coachella was sick.

Angele would be nice as well, but seems like she's booked elsewhere.

Coachella's lineup seems a bit more relevant and modern than Glastonbury this year. Letting AM, GnR and Elton John headline the same year is just so, so disappointing.

Agree they are different but the mane reason for it to be streamed is to create interest and increase demand. It’s not exactly doing that.

Damn I hadn't realized it didnt sell out.

I think the two weekend thing is dumb, personally. It's a cash grab for the promoter, and prohibits musicians from hitting other california markets on their tour.

Economies of scale to be fair. must reduce the ticket price significantly, probably at least 50-100$ per person as they reuse infrastructure, make more money on selling more food etc and get artists on a better deal.

I had it on and was listening ambiently. Seemed fairly standard for them.

Same set as last year pretty boring from them

A baffling booking which will go down in notoriety when he disappears as fast as he climbed the ladder. At least Mumfords had hits when they headlined the Pyramid.

by the way, the biggest development right now is that it seems you can walk out of the beer gardens with your alcohol  and they wont stop you. We dont know if its a new permanent policy or if theyre just experimenting or anything of the sort. There were def more  beer cups on the fields when it came to litter though.

now nobody can moan about beer jails, fucks sake! only 99 other things that are shit about it left

haha

Do we even know Bad Bunny was paid the most anyway. He is absolutely huge and gets bashed for no reason here, would not be shocked if Frank was paid more.

bunny def got the most of the 3 this year. Frank likely still on his first contract to return from 2020 and maybe the only diff financially is production demands. The shocker is that he is not selling merch which would have giving him a mountain of money.

Can’t believe we’re on the day of Frank’s headline show and we’re still non the wiser on whether this is gonna kick off his new album promo or if he’s literally just gonna phone it in and play a bunch of old shit. I’m loving the mystery and hype surrounding it.

The rumors have been more insane.

personally im glad this nightmare ends and the lineup rumor hype for him is gone and we move onto other artists cause this sure as hell isnt happening again.

Underworld seem to be going down well with the rave yoots

They seem to have been getting a bit of a critical reappraisal as of late. Seen a lot of hype and praise for them in the lead up to Coachella which I don’t think there would’ve been a few years ago. Guess it helps that electronic music is very much at the forefront of Coachella more than ever these days.

Looking at the first Coachella line up in 99 and Underworld and Chemicals both on there so guess they have a bit of history with the fest. Cant believe they are in their mid 60s nowadays!

Coachella rarely gets these type of 90s dance acts vs glasto that always has one of chems, prodigy, underworld, orbital etc + fatboy every year

Think chems being there must help, crossover is obviously massive. People have been begging for them to go back for years
