Weather thread 2015

The only day the ground was wet was Saturday. Otherwise it was dry

You must have been at a different Glastonbury 2014 to the one I was at.

I remember trying to sit outside JP on Sunday afternoon -- in the sun -- and there wasn't anywhere to sit amongst the mud. Let alone the other days.

I do recall Wednesday being warm because my mate was out sunbathing when I arrived around lunchtime. Thursday I have no recollection of at all, no idea what I did that day. Friday was the day of the biblical storm and resulting mudbath.

Yeah Wednesday was glorious, and Thursday was fine (overcast but dry on the whole)

Friday was abysmal

Saturday was occasionally sunny but with enough rain to finish off ruining the ground

Sunday was largely dry (looking back at photos), but certain areas of the festival were wrecked (other stage/the ground outside JP were particularly bad I think)

Monday was nice and sunny again

Sure, not a 'vintage' bad weather year, but definitely not pleasant. The ground in some places was comparable to 2011.

Which campsites get wrecked the quickest in bad weather? or are they all much of a muchness

Campsites are generally fine these days (unless at the bottom of a hill). It's only really the main footpaths that cause the problems.

Even at the bottom of the hill the ground gets a bit boggy but they don't seem to flood like they used to.

2014 was annoying - one minute getting drenched and sunburnt the next. and then a moderate amount of mud from Friday onwards - enough to prevent you from sitting down on the ground.

a year with moderate amount of mud should still be classed as a mud year - it still prevents you from sitting anywhere, you get stuck, and everything takes so much more effort...

Thursday started raining about 3pm (the moment i arrived) and carried on well into the evening.

Friday started with a shower but cleared up. It was then really sunny up until the huge storm about 5.30pm during Rudimental. I went from sunbathing during De la Soul to running for cover within an hour. After the storm it was fine again but the ground was ruined.

Saturday was also nice and sunny until another huge rain shower at 4.30 pm which finished the ground off. Again we went from dancing in the sun in The Blues to legging it into Sonic for cover!

Sunday was decent all day!

All in all it was a weird one because i remember a lot of nice sunny weather - but i also remember a lot of mud!!

It does look like a barren wasteland if the site gets muddy, that's for sure.

Still, I've seen more brilliant acts there than I have at the Pyramid, regardless of some people's low regard for it.

So you are saying dry ice is not used/can not be used in cloud seeding?

...

Edit - Ha Ha. I just clicked on your useful Wiki link (thanks. ever so helpful) and it says in the Wiki article that dry ice can be used to seed........

"The process of altering cloud precipitation can be done with the use of dry ice.[31] It was widely used in experiments in the US in the 1950s and early 60s before it was replaced by silver iodide.[31] Dry ice has the advantage of being relatively cheap and completely non-toxic.[31] Its main drawback is the need to be delivered directly into the supercooled region of clouds being seeded"

Was once, is not as it doesn't work well. Just saying the stuff you're guessing at is easily available with a single google search - it's far better to spread facts than guesses

Especially here, we're good at overreacting in this thread!

Latest update from the websites currently forecasting amounts of rainfall for the festival:

2014 wasn't that bad for rainfall was it? Or was the downpour on the thursday that bad?

Edit i'm thinking 2013, ignore me.

The latest from my mate at the met office is "signals are for a ridge extension from the Azores High to dominate initially, bringing driest and warmest conditions to south and eat - moderate confidence". This is for the period from 21st of June to mid July.

C'MMMMMONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

Ask your mate at the Met Office if he can predict line ups too. The 2016 headliners thread may not ever have to end up like this years.

    • The first half of that game was cracking but then I fell asleep at half time. Maybe that's just the momentum of things.

    • A win is a win but it was a very poor game with only 4 shots on target in the whole game. Scotland obviously handed a massive bonus with Brazil and Morocco drawing but I don't think either of them will be too worried.
