I'm intrigued by Sub Focus' set on IICON. I was hoping he might be doing something a little more esoteric but he's probably just been placed there to spread the crowds on the final night. It'll be busy.

The Katy B thing could be a possibility, I guess. He's got 2 1/2 hours and Katy is already on site, so you have everything you need. Only one way to find out!

I have to say that, although it might be sacrilege on here, i think opening up IICON to different and more "popular" mainstream genres and artists is a good play. We've only been to the Festival twice since 2019 when it first appeared and, as we're not that into Techno, we've never had a reason to see an artist at a stage which always looks amazing. Really looking  forward to Sub Focus and then Nia Archives as our Sunday closers.

It's not necessarily sacrilege, but it is important to have somewhere for deeper forms of electronica to be showcased. IICON is exactly that, but it's a big space and rarely fills out, so they're probably rethinking the previously quite rigid music policy, in line with the renewed focus on crowd control. We'll see how the Sub Focus "experiment" goes this year and if it's a success in spreading the crowds across the site, I can definitely see more accessible acts being planted on there in the future. That might even form part of a stage revamp. This will be the fourth year it's been in this form, they want fancy changing it over the fallow period.

there really isn’t much techno ever on iicon. I think there’s two Techno Djs on it this year (and one of those is only very loosly in that category).

Tbh there’s too much DnB on all over the site already, IIcon really doesn’t need to have any (luckily its on Sunday when all the Techno heads will be in the Temple anyway)

I do find it interesting that the biggest stage in all of the SEC (and  on the whole site in general) skews towards much less accessible subgenres. I love it the programming personally ,but appreciate that it makes more sense from a crowd-control perspective. That being said , Bicep was a bit of a disaster last year from what i hear??

My bad, i had assumed it was techno as it was a long list of names that i didn't recognise. Mea Culpa.

I don't disagree that there is a lot of DnB, my point isn't that we need more DnB, but that the largest open stage in the SE Corner should play host to the larger names across the Electronic / Dance music genres in order to make the most of the space.

Completely agree that all forms of electronic music should have representation, and that some genres are over / under represented. As above though, IICON, along with Arcadia are the two largest late night dance venues, and therefore logic dictates that they should have the larger names, regardless of genre, purely from a practical crowd perspective.

I always felt like the iicon area is used like a buffer zone to ease the SE corner bottleneck a little - for that to work they need people to move on to other venues rather than block that field up. They can’t very well close that field off as its where everyone comes in.

The first year was incredibly niche, and its got progressively less niche since then, I figured they’re slowly testing out how mainstream they can go without causing a literal road block

FishOctagon really tempting me for Saturday night tbh.

Think we’ll stick with Caribou, but after years of us collectively asking for a decent trance set, it’ll be tough to pass this up.

Fish is def yes for me.

It's going to go off.

Amelie Lens usually has intervals of trance in her sets these days

(though not in a 2000s club classics kinda way)

I’ll be at her Glade set for sure.

Ki/Ki plays some trance too, but again not in a Binary Finary kind of way.

Given that the Glade has a, sadly seemingly almost forgotten now, real history of psy and experimental stuff, let's hope Ms Lens drops some trance bombs into her Glade set.

If the crowds are good, and up for a proper, not-too-talky, rave, fish > Richie > Amelie could be truly magnificent.

And then I get Blawan on IICON too. That's some Saturday night.

This set has become my most important thing not to miss at this festival. He’s promising wall to wall trance classics on the Saturday night at the best festival in the world. I can’t think of one place I’d rather be!!

Arcadia already does the more mainstream stuff and so does Greenpeace tree now, that's enough. Block9 has always been more niche and should stay that way imo. I understand that they have to spread the crowds but seeing more DnB appearing on IICON considering it's already everywhere is slightly disappointing for me personally.

That said I'm not lacking for night time or day time options this year, still haven't figured out exactly what my schedule will be though.

Well up for that run, but wouldn't be surprised if i'm working - but I did give my preferred working location as Glade so fingers crossed.

New website from Tiktoker JapaneseXKnotweed where you can search by genre - not perfect but the best I've seen with all the acts in there

OOOh this is nice! I could take to task a few of the tags and perhaps a lack of nuance in some quite big genres but I appreciate the effort and do find this helpful. God, do I really need to go back in to my lineup options at this stage??

Richie > Amelie > Blawan

We’ll be doing this.

I think there’s also fairly high chance we’ll be seeing Amelie’s Friday LHC set too, so hopefully they’re not carbon copies 🤦‍♂️ 😂 After her Friday set we’ll head over to Blind Tiger for the Hardcore Energy takeover

That bit of Friday is still,*gulps*, a bit 'fluid for me. If I can get into Assembly after Max Cooper and it's good, then I can see myself in there until 10-15mins before Craig Richards finishes, before the dash to the SEC before the whole of SH/Arcadia/Glade empty. If Assembly is not excellent, then I too may head to LHC for the first of two Amelie Lens sets in two days!

Ah there is so many downfalls to it for me, I think the Download main stage area is so much better and that's coming from me. If you're camped in green to go round all the time and out for lidl and even water is stupid!
