Erm, it was by Labi Siffre originally, I don't believe Bacharach or David had any involvement!

I can't really see any difference between cover, variation and rearrangement. All just different words for the same thing really. I suppose you could say they suggest increasing amounts of change from an original, in which case 'variation' might fit best for the Madness version.

That bamber is absolutely tremendous. I didn't see this performance but I went to see his warm up show in Nottingham the week before and it was pretty much the same set.
