Such an overreaction. A band you don't like so overwhelming criticism. If a band you liked did it you wouldn't care less.

Yeah, I imagine a fair few will go over to the Pyramid after The Vaccines ready for Foo's that night. The issue I'm going to have is being FF will be on for 2hrs most likely, I'll miss half of the Rudimental set either way and the bit worth seeing will likely come at the end.

Will it be Foos that get 2hours? If it's only one band that gets an extended slot, it'll be The Who won't it?

Or will they give both an extended slot?

I still think it's odd that any announcement would have a notable impact on BST sales. Just because it's possible that someone could miss a significant chunk of Glasto to attend BST on the Friday, is anyone in their right mind likely to do so?! Likewise, how many people would see the Glasto coverage as a deal-breaker and decide not to go? The BBC never broadcast the whole thing and it's no substitute (no pun intended...) for actually being there! Plus we have the option of recording things on Sky+ or using iPlayer/downloading the torrent of it...

The fact is that Hyde Park has always been a terrible venue and BST has taken it to a new corporate low. Neil Young last June had a poor atmosphere and was poorly organised! I'm not going to pretend that I'm familiar with their sales figures - but they all have decent or popular headliners and good supports, yet none are sold out currently and the general consensus is that sales are poor! The fact that Stubhub - an institution that exists to fleece people! - had £99 combo tickets around Easter for any 2 BST events tells its own story... As does the £2.50 "mistake" from last year.

BST should be more concerned about putting on events that are actually worth going to than the negligible affect of an already sold out Glastonbury.

Also, The Who are playing the RAH a week after Glastonbury. It's a Quadrophenia show rather a regular gig - but wouldn't that be their last UK date of the tour? Could that be why they're stalling instead of BST?

That's Pete Townshend only though. Roger Daltrey's parts are being sung by Alfie Boe.

I reckon both will get around 2 hours. I'm not sure how long The Who normally play for but looking at their setlists I'd guess it's about 2 hours.

Gigs get cancelled for business reasons all the time, and usually for reasons far more trivial than this. It sucks for the folk in Paris, but there isn't some sacred and inviolable contract made between a band and their fans when a concert is arranged that The Who are now guilty of breaking. A month's notice is a little tight time wise, but it's plenty more time than plenty of other cancellations that happen on a daily basis.

The booking itself isn't exactly a stunning one, but I can see myself there. I'm not that much of a fan, but if it's the last ever chance to see them......

Morning mate, how's the holiday?

I've been thinking about this booking a lot. Not the logistics and the Paris thing, that's shit, clearly, but where's the news in 'band treating fans like dirt'. More the idea that anyone believes the who in 2015 are a vital musical force. As an end of the pier, vaudeville act, as a piece of history, as a vaguely diverting novelty act, sure. But some of the hyperbole on this thread: 'at the top of their game'. Really? Really?

I guess if you're a tick the box music fan, or you've never seen them before, fair enough. But if you have, chances are it's not going to be as good as last time you saw them. This is not a big thing for them, or the festival. It's a milllion miles away from the Stones.

Morning! Iran was stunning. A great bunch of Iranian lads. Better even than Thailand, if such a thing is possible.

As for The Who, for me it's solid but unexciting and I'll take it over a repeat of the Sunday night last year when I wandered the festival site like a restless, earthbound spectre, trying to find someone, anyone, anything to entertain me. The probable clash with Belle and Sebastian is a pain, but I'm seeing them in a couple of weeks with an orchestra so I can take that one on the chin.

And they're still less heinously and comically evil than the Foo Fighters, right. They've written a tune or two in their time, so have that in their favour over folk like Kasabian and Mumfords.

agreed, agreed and agreed.

Glad you're having a good time. Nice one. Never been to Iran. Surprised about your love for Thailand. I lived there for a couple of years. Was alright, but nothing spectacular. Me, I fancy a trip round the 'stans later in the year.

IIRC it was about two and a half on the current tour.

I saw them do Quadrophenia in Hyde Park yonks ago and was hugely disappointed (unsurprisingly I guess).

I got dragged along to the Birmingham gig last November at a few hours notice and was rather astounded at how good they were. Daltrey's voice was still ace, the rest of the band were tight. Stage production was superb including a cleverly inserted solo from the Ox.

And they were very, very loud.

Heh. Just being a wee wide-o. Got little interest in going back to a Thailand that's now just a slightly more exotic 18-30 destination. Glad I got to Iran while it was still the slightly less-trodden path.

didn't Emily also say in her Kanye piece that he was getting two hours? might've just been speaking generally as 'two hours' is easier to say than 'an hour and forty' or whatever, but i definitely think both Foos and The Who will get that long (at least) so maybe all the headliners will

Last year the Pyramid finishing times were 2345, 2345 and 2315 unless they're changing it this year though I'd be surprised as I thought that was part of their licence/pact with the locals. I think the headliners should get offered 2 hours as standard though.

Yeah, Sunday slots always finish a little earlier and some are a shorter by far (Other stage headliner slot is sometimes criminally short on a Sunday).

Other Stage headliner gets about an hour just like the other two days doesn't it? still too short, mind, but don't think it's any shorter than for the rest of the weekend

Other Stage headliner gets 1hr 15 generally, the same as what Pyramid sub does.

    • It's gone past can I afford it, and more is it worth it?   For over half the shows I go to, buy a ticket the week of the show and chance it that it is on tickets or a seat filler.
    • Yep - Richard Tandy was in the band.
