Headliners 2015

I disagree, very few people I speak to who want to go to Glastonbury or who are going for the first time know much about the SE corner really. Or if they do its more something they've heard recommended and want to check while they're there.

Plus there's plenty of interesting music there.

The 3 Pyramid headliners have a wider impact that just the sets they play. They are an indicator of the festival as a whole. The diversity across the entire site is often reflected in the diversity of the headliners over the last few years. Rock n Roll, indie, dance, rap, RnB, metal, soul - from up and coming acts, through established acts to outright legends.

There will always be something interesting on somewhere on site and those who've been before know this but a lot of people who don't go to the festival only really look at the 3 names at the top of the bill. Bland headliners will start to attract a bland crowd.

Pish and nonsense! The Pyramid is the biggest stage at arguably the biggest festival in the world. This year they have booked arguably two of the biggest bands in the world and potentially have elevated a new act to big festi headliner status.

Three Points:

A: There seems to be two types of dissatisfied folks in this forum. The kind who want Zepplin, The Stones and AC/DC heading each year and the kind who want "interesting" or braver bookings whatever that means (Neil Young, Nick Cave and Bjork?). One is totally unrealistic and the other is not going to sustain a festival of Glastos size whatever you might like to think.

B: You think that Coldplay and Foos will attract a bland crowd (I assume you mean the V festival type)? I say that booking Metallica and Arcade Fire last year and not knowing the line up is more likely to put them off.

C: It's not the end of the world....the festival will continue....we'll all go and have an amazing time.

agree, if anything's gonna bring the morons initially, it's a bland set of headliners, and although this years tickets sold out in record time, i bet Arcade Fire and Metallica topping the bill last year had a part in putting some of them off this year. Foos, Coldplay, Taylor/Florence/whoever is gonna have them lining up in hoards for next year

You really think so? I suspect that people who like mainstream pop and rock will probably always opp to buy a ticket to V or Beyoncé at the O2 rather than taking a punt on three unknown Glasto headliners.

None of the 3 proposed headliners is likely to have a noticeably detrimental impact on ticket sales next year.

But I can't see the trio mentioned being roundly welcomed in the music media and I think the majority of seasoned Glasto goers would express serious disappointment.

That's neither here nor there really in the grand scheme of things given the amount of other stuff on offer but, personally, I think the 3 suggested headliners are a truly dreadful offering

i'm not being as dramatic as saying that it'll kill the festival, but, example: my sister, who has shit music taste, was all over Glastonbury 2013 because of Beyonce and Coldplay headlining in 2011 (she, for some reason, thought a Beyonce-esque act would again headline). she got a ticket, but when The Rolling Stones were the main rumour, she opted out and put her ticket back in the pot. now i'm not saying everybody is as stupid as my sister and her friends, but the prior years headliners definitely have an effect on who comes/is interested the next year

The idea that the Festival will suddenly start attracting a blander crowd if the headliners are Coldplay + Foo Fighters + whoever is pretty much bollocks. There've been various "the festival will be overrun by ...." type posts relating to many different headliners on here going back years and yet every year the crowds are much the same as the year before. That's what happens when the vast bulk of tickets are sold before any acts are announced.

I really don't buy the idea that it'll have a negative effect on future years either. We can look to the past on this - with a trio of Coldplay / Stereophonics / Rod Stewart in 2002 then if the theory was true you'd expect 2003 to be dreadful - yet it's often listed as one of the better festivals.

i'd say they're equal levels of atrociousness, although at least Kasabian don't have 3 decades worth of mostly complete shit, and are vaguely relevant and popular at the moment.

The way I see it is that the festival has always attracted the biggest bands and artists in the world.

Like it or not .. Coldplay/Foos/Swift fit into this category. People are so blinded by their own musical tastes it often makes them ignore this fact.

Foo's aside .. They are not for me and I won't he watching. But I'm sure the huge crowds they will likey all attract will prove them to be popular and successful bookings for the festival.

I'm no fan of either but Can't Get You Out of My Head, Spinning Around, Confide in Me, Kids, I Believe in You, Slow etc etc are tunes that people know and can sing and dance too. Decent and well crafted pop tunes. All her albums go top 5 in the UK too.

Im really not a fan of hers but its not difficult to be better than Kasabian. Kasabian are absolute nothing music. Completely pointless ladrock nonsense. And cringing in their post Oasis ways too.

I find it interesting, I live in a bubble, I guess, but Foo Fighters rarely impinge on my consciousness. I've never knowlingly listened to a Foo Fighters song, put a gun to my head, I still couldn't hum one. It's hard for me to understand exactly how big they are.
