I think the album will be out. They were (apparently) in the studio a few months back. They've never taken particularly long to release an album (I mean FWN was out a year three months after Whatever). If they were recording in September that means they probably have most of the songs written and 6-9 months from recording to release seems realistic in my eyes. I predict an May/ June release. It's about the same time it took for them to do humbug - started November out by August/ started September out June

It's slightly different because they were headlining r&l off Humbug which is arguably their most difficult record to listen to (but has been critically acclaimed as their best). Their new record appears much more instant if you understand.

Also, I really hope they leave the first record alone. Play When The Sun... and I Bet... for the bit of the crowd and then leave them. They've got a wealth of better material. I really liked the headlining setlist from last time, so I hope they throw in a few b-sides, covers and guest appearances.

i'm coming at this from ignorance really, not being much of a Monkeys fan, but..

having read these pages about them, the things most of their fans seem to accept was wrong with recent festival headlining (was it R&L, or V?) was the crowd not knowing the new stuff.

so if their new album isn't going to be out until after Glasto, isn't that problem at risk of repeating?

so to avoid that they could just play tunes that everybody already knows - aka their last tour or a greatest hits.

and if that happens, then really what is the point of them headlining at all, other than just for the sake of it? there's nowt wrong with that per se, of course.

apologies if i am missing out something here.

They won't play any more than 3 new songs (by new I don't mean R U Mine? etc, I mean ones we haven't heard of yet).

They're not stupid, he's even said they didn't quite get it right at Glasto last time. It'll be the closest we'll ever get to a greatest hits set by them.

If they even play, that is.

Because you learn from past mistakes much like their Reading set it went down like a stone in water. They will have hopefully learned that playing 8 songs off your new album released the week before your festival slot isn't going to create the best atmosphere...

i saw Sigur Ros at Bestival though, and i'll never get to see the Stones again. and i know Sigur Ros themselves have said that they didn't like their Bestival performance, but they're talking out of their arses 'cause it was incredible

if Sigur Ros are against Arctics or Mac, though, then that's a decision made easy!
