Well if her type of Aspergers means she can't function properly in a certain environment, something which is often an aspect of it, it may restrict her from competing.

What do you lot reckon to Pistorius' comments about the blades used by the guy who beat him. Apparently they are too long and give an unfair advantage...

If he'd run the time he ran in the heats, he would have won. So part of me does think sour grapes.

Though this is another reason the whole thing doesn't appeal - just how much is down to the athlete and how much down to the blades (and their length...)

Exactly. On one hand he is saying the blades don't make any difference, so he can run in the Olympics, but on the other, his blades are faster than mine, no fair.

I think he has apologised for the comments. It really did come over as soup grapes. You could see how pissed off he was when he did not win. Whether that is down to arrogance I dont know.

The length of the blades is obviously an issue as it was discussed prior to the Olympics.

I'm pretty sure he will regret the timing but I guess he will stand by his comments.

I can't remember where I read it, but during the Olympics someone made the point that in the Olympics there won't be too many complaints about Pistorius running on blades as long as he's a "plucky also-ran". If & when a bladerunner starts winning medals, then there will be a lot more discussion.

This isn't a million miles away; "by all means have the technology, but if you beat me I won't be happy."

I was lucky enough to go to the wheelchair basketball yesterday. GB against Poland, amazing game and we won!

Yeah maybe and not wanting to turn this into another mental health thread, it just seemed perculiar as I always saw the para-olympics as people who had disabilities which would be a physical detriment to that event. Would imagine its difficult to regulate for a start.

But just as with some of Boyle's recent tweets, any outrage comes from the stupid unable to actually think about what's been said. I was pleased to see him being corrected tho, that he should be saying "disabled people" and not "the disabled" - by an ex-paralympian, who had no problem with the actual jokes themselves.

Anyway, no one here took the bait. I'm pleasantly surprised.
