Filthy
What percentage of Eavis's mates who helped set up the festival in the first place were privately educated?
fatyeti24
Haha. We know you fool. Why are they going to get 10 years ago relevant one album Indie headline when they can get much bigger now relevant Indie to do it? Watch you popularit fade away... Englishdragon
Have a think about why the music scene being dominated by pivately school educated people might be a reflection of a big problem at the moment. You can do it!
strummer77
I (like most people) Couldnt Give A Fuck About Where Somebody Is Educated From Get off your high horse and admit you just dont like the band.
jump
Yes lets have florence and the machine headlining, you can never have enough private school educated people who got given their chance via the private school network if you ask me. fri: Mumford & sons (king's college) sat: florence and the machine (alleyn's school) sun: laura marling (leighton park) sub headliners could be la roux, pixie lott and elly jackson Edited February 13, 2013 by jump
1waveydavey
sure, please do check. It's not exactly top secret information. You highlight your ignorance with your lack of comprehension of this topic.
tommyds
I don't know if it's particularly an 'old boys network' type of problem I think it may be more that it's currently so hard to make any money at music when you're starting out that it's only kids that have already got some money that are able to make a proper go of it. neilloggie
You said this once before. Personally I couldn't care less where any of these people went to school so long as the music's good. I guess you're just speculating about the old boys network thing. More importantly, they're all gash.
russycarps
You are right, it is not exactly top secret information, it is in fact completely made up information.. I'm afraid your inverted snobbery highlights your paranoia. You dont appear to have made an actual point either other than a made up percentage of people who went to private schools are in bands - what is the point you are trying to make? Education is a good thing by the way and no, I went to a regular run of the mill comprehensive school and so do my children. Grinderman did not headline in 2011 despite your wish, sorry. thesecretingredientiscrime
It is representative of a problem, but its nowhere near as much as said, and nowhere near as prevalent as in other areas of life. It doesn't mean it can't be looked at or talked about, but I think its been over represented.
The Nal
Let's not forget Radiohead.

Englishdragon
I think he means that the fact that private educated people have a better chance of succeeding in the world is a damning indication of equal opportunity in society. Don't have to hate the band for it, but surely you can hate a system for doing so?
eFestivals
and Blur, don't forget Blur. And Coldplay. And while it's not a public school, surely the exclusive Brit S1chool should count too? So add in Winebucket, Adele, Kate Gash and the others who I forget.I bet Russy has the hots for Jenny Agater too. He'll have to strike that one off his childhood lusts. Englishdragon
it really is. It's not even a difficult study to undertake. People have just compared the album chart in 2010 to that of 1960/70/80/90. It's an undeniable, proven fact. And as someone up there pointed out, radiohead went to private school and I love them, so I certainly dont hate bands just because they went to private school. I hate the fact that a private school education gives you such a massive advantage in life, and that advantage has now spread to the music scene too. Another door slams shut in the face of the working classes
russycarps
but I dont hate bands because they went to private school, I hate that private school gives mediocre bands opportunities that others are denied.
thesecretingredientiscrime
I think something like commercial charts is exactly where you'd be wrong. There's no way some of the hip-pop that spreads throughout the charts nowadays would have had its equivalent back then. If you look at people like Dizzee Rascal, Tinie Tempah, Labrynth, Leona Lewis etc. etc. who do chart well often, there's massive social mobility. As I said, I agree with you in certain areas, but considering the prevalence of music such as the above mentioned now, its hard to agree with chart comparisons. eFestivals
surely David Cameron will do something about if its brought his attentionyeah, cos a man with £30M of inherited money in the bank and who went to Eton and Oxford is just the man to push a social mobility agenda.
