2013 Headliners

Politics affects the headliners, internal and external politics, its very hard to seperate, and that's what makes Glastonbury different because of the ethos (I'm not talking about Mumford in particular). When you take the politics out of Glastonbury, its headliners and history, its fuck all.

I know Emily Eavis recently made a comment about not wanting to get involved in politics but I believe she later clarified and refuted that.

Mmmm could it also not be a case that back in the 60s, 70s and 80s the thought of a privately educated well to do individual going into, god forbid, a rock band would have had mummy and daddy cutting the money supply off and that they hadvto get themselves a proper job in finance, law, medicine etc? However over the last 20 years or so parents allow their children to grow and express themselves a lot more freely now hence a sudden influx of privately educated individuals entering the music industry? Not saying thats the case but more of a question

That's fine, but whether you want to care about it or not, the fest have been shown to use it in booking acts (u2, Springsteen, Coldplay, Jay-Z) being recent major examples.

It plays a role and is why I'd imagine acts like Eminem would never be booked. People can give the Snoop example to counter that, but its a long time since Snoop has talked about his earlier themes, and now seems more concerned with smoking green, something which isn't exactly counter Glastonbury.

I'm not saying it isn't affecting who plays, i don't know enough about it to comment on that. I'm just saying that when all is said and done and we're stood in front of whatever stage, is anyone really thinking about politics or anything else other than the performance?

Or a man dressed as a fisherman slagging off the stewards (which i saw last year at 6am Monday morning)

    • Iran firing missiles at Israel blaming Israel's continued breaking of ceasefire agreements with its bombing of Lebanon. Deal with that one Trump you d*ck.
    • Best of all is to get the tram, then call a taxi for very short not-rip-off ride once in the centre.
    • Would you decide to go once more I recommend to queu up at the ‘official’ freenow taxi line ( 5 min walk from the main gate). It might take 15 min or so but they are not ripping you off. Even at 3 or 4 in the night it costed us about 25eur to the city center.
    • How do you mean? Better as a hotel/ festival combo?   I've done rock am ring at both sites.....unpopular opinion I much preferred the mending site and really didn't like the long and narrow main stage at RaR.
    • Yesterday was another brilliant day of music for me. Some highlights:  My Bloody Valentine - absolutely loved it! Maybe my main festival highlight. I felt submerged in the music with all the layers and distortion. It becomes hypnotic almost as it progresses. Not as loud as some thought it might be, but it didn’t need to be. The visuals added a lot too. During the noise part of You Made me Realise, I was basically in a trance staring at the visual tunnel or whatever it was on screen. Amazing experience. Little Simz - as she mentioned at the start, you’re guaranteed a good time with her. Great performance just like in 2022. Zero complaints. The little DJ section wasn't something I expected but was cool. Kneecap - I had a blast but at this point in the night I was at my most intoxicated let's say, so I don’t remember it as clearly as I'd have liked to!    The xx - The sound for this was perfectly balanced (at least where I was) and the band were great. Lots of talkers, but with the crowd size and being kind of far back, it's to be expected. Intro was one of my favourite moments this year. Big Thief - really good live performers. The lead singer has a lovely voice. This was a nice chill way to kick off the mordor gigs for me.
