I thought the "about" was a clue that I was exadgerating to make a point. I didn't go round counting them, just had the misfortune of them stampeding past me as I wetn round for Hot Chip.

Although I'll tell you something, I made my way across the Pyramid stage (was coming from JP and wanted some Brother pre HC) when she was on, and it was a ghost town. I honestly thought there'd been a bomb scare of something

I walked thru the Other Stage field while Florence was on, while the Flaming Lips were on, while La Roux was on, and while Orbital were on.

Florence had by FAR the biggest crowd. People were also three or four deep on the railway track to watch her too. Personally, I was wanting ear plugs. :P

La Roux also had a bigger crowd than Flaming Lips and Orbital. There's plenty of pop fans at Glastonbury, no matter how much some wish to deny it.

I predict a muted response if she wheels this out at any of her UK festival appearances:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/may/06/beyonce-charity-single-god-bless-usa

God Bless the USA was written and originally released in 1984 by country musician Lee Greenwood, and was played at this year's Republican party convention. Its popularity increased after 9/11, and it was re-released following the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Beyoncé's version will raise funds for the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit. The singer originally recorded the track in 2008 for the Obama presidential campaign, but never released it. It seems likely the death of Osama bin Laden on Monday has been the spur for this release.

I'm getting really annoyed by the attitude that seems to be increasingly prevalent that everything has to be a sing a long.

In the Beyonce debate all I hear is "She'll have to do covers". Anyone gets booked in a vaguely high slot and all you hear is "They'll have to do covers"

Why? Whatever happened to going and seeing an act and being impressed by their muscianship. Not just being pandered to. I'd never really heard Orbital before Primavera last year and they absolutely blew my mind - they didn't do it by coming and covering Yellow Submarine.

The instant gratification mp3 world we live in I guess

I disagree. Part of the fact that u2 is such a great booking is because they are exclusive to glast. If they were doing every festival on the circuit it wouldnt be as special, and i imagine the crowd would be a fair bit smaller

I am neither a beyonce or u2 fan btw

It means something to me in that I did always want Beyonce to play at Glastonbury but not really to headline. I accepted her as a headliner because I thought it was the only way she would play. Now I know she is willing to appear further down the bill at a lesser festival, I find it more difficult to justify her being a headliner.

I will still go and see her and enjoy her in the same way as i would before the titp announcement, but I am now a bit annoyed that she isn't a bit further down the bill!

Of course Beyonce will get a huge crowd. For exactly the same reason mumford and sons, plan b, tinie tempah, kaiser chiefs, biffy clyro will: because the average glastonbury goer has absolutely shit mainstream taste in music. It was ever thus.

All we can do is look down upon and ridicule such people and bask in the knowledge that our love of diverse obscure bands makes us much better human beings who will be ushered into heaven when we die to live a life of fornication with beautiful nubile females with massive lung warts, while the pop-ites will spend all eternity being buggered with fiery pokers in hell.

I have a feeling that a significant percentage of Russys posts may have a little tinge of the pisstake to them. :)

Yes its horrible. Shes horrible. What she represents is horrible but most importantly, her music is horrible. Just shit.

As I said, Im happy people are happy shes playing. But standards are slipping if Beyonce is an acceptable headliner of the biggest music festival in the world.

Its called "The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts". Not "Come Here and Flog your Brand to Everyone You Greedy Bitch".

Pick me up some socks if theres a clothes stand will you? Ill meet you after the show discreetly. Dont want my music cred knocked by getting them myself.

P.S. I retract what I say about her bot being “acceptable”. Of course she is as people are happy to see her. What I mean is that world music standards are slipping if shes acceptable, not just as a Glasto headliner but as a huge star. If she was 80% music and the rest "brand" I wouldnt mind. But the opposite is true. And I err… accept that that’s the case.

If blokes are going with their other half purely becuase the missus wants to see her that’s cool. At least they can stay occupied by checking out her slutty moves and cheap hooker clothes. She may even get the bare arse out too with only a dental floss thong covering up her rabbits nostril.

I'll be watching Beyonce!

On the telly when I get home.

Quite possibly with a x30 symbol in the bottom left of the screen. But to be fair, if people like that kind of stuff then I hope they enjoy it. Christ knows I listen to some bands that would make a lot of the muso types on here laugh their cocks off. Each to their own and all that but I reserve the right to say, "Christ! She's just dreadful. Why would anyone listen to that shite?".

I think she'll get a big crowd. As mentioned before, the bloody awful, omnipresent Florence drew a huge crowd last year. I wailing women and costume changes are your thing then you know where to be.
