Well said, for me my passion for music comes from every genre, talking about the music I like and why I like it, not why it's better than others or critising other peoples taste in music. It should be about you, not others. But some people on this board seem to have different views

sigh! Glastonbury is just soooo full of music snobbery it really does do my head in and if these boards are a representation of the majority of Glasto goers, not sure my first visit will be all that good actually.

I'm afraid I will be seeing Beyonce with my good lady wife so I guess that makes me some kind of chav, big fat gypsy wedding watching scum (despite the fact I am reasonably intelligent, doing alright for myself thank you very much).

I have said it before and will say it again, a true music lover embraces any type of music and if you like it, you like it, end of story. Doesn't matter who wrote it or how credible the artist is, give me a tune I like and I'm happy, no matter who the artist is and what genre of music it is. A true music lover won't slate music that they don't like or the people that like the music you don't like.

Too many people on here like the sound of their own online voices and assumed musical intellect. Why not pull your heads out of your own arses for a few minutes and dare to listen to music that you could never allow yourself to listen to for fear of been deemed uncool. Who knows you might even like it.

If she was 80% music and the rest "brand" I wouldnt mind.

But you don't seem to mind yourself supporting a footie team that's 20% football and 80% brand. :P

Glory glory tire and insurance seller,

These aren't used by footie, fella,

But they'll keep on being sellers,

As the reds go marketing ON ON ON

She's black, incredibly talented, incredibly good looking, a smart business woman and by-all-accounts, fairly clean-living so obviously advertisers are going to be driving truckfuls of cash to her door, don't really see a problem with it, the quality of her songwriting has gone way up over recent years if anything.

90% of artists and there management, probably including the likes of Arcade Fire/Pulp are just out to make as much money as possible, you're kidding yourself if you think otherwise, some are just infinetly more marketable than others.

I don't think its anywhere near 90%. Nothing wrong with making money mind.

I'm with Tom Waits on this one: "If Michael Jackson wants to work for Pepsi, why doesn`t he just get himself a suit and an office in their headquarters and be done with it?"

Same for Beyonce.

And do you also think that Man Utd should give up football and concentrate on what they can make out of the insurance business instead?

Anything else would show you as having double standards. :)

Actually, with the tiniest bit of research I owe Pulp and their fans an apology, seems they turned down an awful lot of money from Coke to use their songsin adverts!

Certainly other bands that would be considered far more relevant to headline have sold the rights to their songs for advertising, Arcade Fire sold the rights to use 'Ready to Start' to the Fox network, U2 were on the recent Blackberry advert and you can rarely put on BBC sports coverage nowadays without hearing an Elbow song.

Yep. Beyonce and MUFC totally comparable 100%.

For exploiting possible commercial opportunities their respective fame creates, they very definitely are.

They both have fame from one particular part of the entertainment industry, but have chosen to cash-in wherever they can elsewhere as well, for their own monetary benefit.

There's absolutely no difference at all.

Who cares if she is sub-headlining T, once her and coldplay have finished that day what are you supposed to do then? Go straight back to the camp site...at glastonbury you have another 6 hours to explore the festival at shranglai etc.

Look at most of the bands who headline Glastonbury who people say 'terrible booking, not big enough'.

Muse (2004)

Arctic Monkeys (2007)

Kings of Leon (2008)

Jay Z (2009)

These slots launch them into being huge acts and unsurprisingly other festivals try and get them as soon as possible. Most bands don't become massive they play a good slot at Glastonbury and these festivals know this so its unsurprising they will try and book them also

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
