I spent the whole of last years Thursday, thinking it was Friday, I was delighted when I was reminded on the Friday it was still Friday, if that makes sense.

In days of yore as someone already said, the NME would have a poster that listed all the acts and it would be released some time around early June. The full line up is out in early June...how else can Halvin produce his clashfinder?

I buy my Glastonbury ticket because its my favourite place on earth. I don't care who plays, i don't care when the line-up is announced, I'm just overjoyed that i'm gonna be there again in June.

A lot of negativity on the boards at times. People whingeing about this and that. Lets all just be happy that Mr Eavis is inviting us to his garden party yet again!

I've stuck something up about this before.

I'd have thought that playing Glasto does have some prestige/kudos with artists and the fact that it's pretty much non-profit and not a corporate event means that the artists respect that fees are limited. Plus from a costs perspective, no need to set up a huge stage show (like U2 and other acts usually have these days) so the cost to the artist/company/band is lower.

But what the hell do I know.

Reasonable amount I'd say if so.

there is a difference between his takings and the business profit.

I think in the case of GFL they probably have no shareholders to pay so all supernormal profit is reinvested. Of course a significant portion is also given to the charities. ME is probably on a wage just like everyone else who works for them.

Surely it's simple economics (or making money).

Glasto gets bands on the cheap for the prestige and TV exposure.

Part of the deal is often that a band won't be announced too early if they are touring close to Glasto as it may hit the sales of their tour tickets. ("No point in paying to see xxx if I'm going to be seeing them at Glasto anyway" etc.)

But that has to be balanced against Glasto being sure of selling out the festival. So, sometimes enough names have to be released in advance to guarantee to re-sale this Sunday.

we know you are going but please try and get it into your head that this festival is so utterly different from any other on this planet. You are going to really f**k people off if you still dont get it when you get there in person.

Read the posts, listen to what everyone is trying to tell you. You and your own personal written opinion as to how the line ups should be announced are a waste of your time and energy as Glastonbury runs by its own agenda, timescale and approach. Ickle Pogo isnt going to change a thing.

The system works, it aint broke and doesnt need fixing. The festival has always been linked in with the mystical and magical...the line ups are therefore all lovely and secret. Tbh...as the BBC and other media and the over exposure of Glasto has risen over the years, the fact that we find out a reasonable part of the line up months in advance is a pisser! Announcements in the national press as almost headline news in October...WTF?

As I was reading this thread I flashed back to the pre-internet days when I used to go to shows and not know the likely setlist of the band in advance...(I can't help myself checking soem of the time, but sometimes I wish that I didn't.)

Nor, whould I have seen a dozen clips on Youtube of the shows from last week...

Nor, would I have already downloaded a bootleg from the show two days ago...(It used to take months for those white cover/un-labeled LP's to show up in a "secret" box behind the counter at the local indpendent record store...)

Heck, I wouldn't know hundreds of people across the country/world who all liked the same relatively obscure band who had a hit ten years ago but the mainstream radio have long discarded...Nor, would I be able to schedule a time to meet up with them before the show...

I guess that means I'm still cool waiting an extra day to learn a few more of the acts for a festival in June...

Although I am really looking forward to seeing what bands are playing I can't say I'm particularly anxious. If anything I was expecting an announcement alot closer to the festival.
