I'm a big fan, but never seen them at a festival. Anyone have any idea what kind of set to expect? Heavy on Deserter's Songs / All Is Dream?

they still seem to play pretty heavily from Deserter's Songs in their recent setlist so i'd expect similar at the festival, with a few from their new'n and then one or two from the rest. expecting them to sub the Park myself but i guess there are a few places they could realistically take

Yeah, I naturally assumed The Park. Haven't seen them in years. Fully expect their set to provide the peak of my emotional breakdown over the weekend. In a good way!

Only got into them because of what I'd read about Deserter's Songs relationship/similarity to The Flaming Lips' 'The Soft Bulletin'. Really good band and will definitely try and catch them.

Car Wash Hair!  I dunno about hidden, but the pre-Deserter's Songs stuff is better than the post-. 

Notoriously ropey live, though.

Never clicked with Mercury Rev.  No reason why, but they're one of those acts that just washes over me without leaving any impression.

bloody flaming lips wannabes! Though jonathan was there for a couple of their decent old albums.

Crap live. I quite like their records though. I'll give them another chance, clashes depending.

Not sure what they will come up with. Saw them live and thought they were pretty decent about seven years ago or something. They didn't bother to play Goddess on a Hiway though!

Saw them headline EOTR in 2008 and they were brilliant. Bloody brilliant. And they were at Glastonbury in 2002 (think that's the right year) on The Other Stage. Will watch them again clashes permitting.

Looking forward to seeing them for the first time at Lunar Festival in early June, or at least I was until someone said they're crap live - bloody buzz-killers! In some ways it's better to have low expectations I guess...

seems like they are inconsistent rather than crap, keep the faith!

I'm slowly going through the original poster line up and came to Mercury Rev with fresh ears. I knew Deserters Songs from way back. But bloody hell, All Is Dream - what an epic. They have rocketed up my must-see list. The new(ish) album is good too.

Amazing headliner at Green Man a couple of years ago. i wasn't that excited about it in the lead up to the festival, but boy did they show me up.

I used to spend weekends at my dads when i was about 9 or 10. Would spend a lot of my time on Zelda Ocarina of Time. My brother who was 24 at the time used to play an album over and over while i played. For years i was oblivious to what it was.

In researching acts for this year, i thought id start at deserters songs. Found myself singing the words to songs like Holes,  Endlessly, Opus 40 and Godess on a Hiway. It all came flooding back to me. Truly a wonderful experience rediscovering music and memories like this and realising how entwined the two are.

Love deserters song and I really like the new album. I've got their Peel sessions they did and his voice sometimes sounds really bad live. Would watch them if nothing else was on though

I've also thoroughly enjoyed rediscovering these and hope to catch them, clashes permitting. Their UK shows late last year got positive reviews:
