Not a festival, but just got back form a stay at portaventura in Spain, and they have introduced misting sprays and also water areas where people can get sprayed with lots of water. We were there and ti was very hot and humid, in fact you could even se the locals struggling with the heat that we've never really seen before.

Yeah can see those being used around the queues and then being moved into the festival site as they die down … fire brigade have dowsed people down in the past

I was in ibiza as well and the club I was at had misting spays in front of fans, in fact a few places in Rome had them. They were very nice.

Some friends from the south were visiting at the weekend, couldn't believe how green it still is around here (Lake District) but then there's just an underlying sogginess here that takes a very prolonged dry spell to dry out.

Did a hike on Tuesday over a notoriously boggy route. essentially the best time to do it is winter when it's frozen or after a hot dry spell.

It was way dryer than usual but impressively still a fair few boggy bits

In 2017 we arrived on Wednesday afternoon, on the hottest day of the year and we got a nice misting between the coach park and the gate, they also gave us each a free can of water.  This was impressive as we'd got the shuttle from bath and west, in an empty air conditioned coach and only had to walk about 100 meters because the fence path had been opened up.

On clay soil does that not just turn the area around it muddy?

Surprisingly not.  My experience of stewards misting/spraying in both 2010 and 2017 was that the area around them was a little moist, but not muddy and barely a few meters around them showed any sign at all.

It's that dust, nature's desiccant at work.  2010 particularly the campsites looked like a Saharan refugee camp by the Sunday.

How are people coping with the heat in terms of festivals this year ? Anyone spotted any obvious extra measures festivals have put on to mitigate the heat ?

Bloodstock have announced that theyve got some mist cannon type things to put in front of both main stages, to fire off and try and cool the moshpit type areas - that will be blissful cos its a surprisingly hot place when the sun is beating down - you'd think nice green leafy derbyshire would be ok but it doesnt half bake when its warm. Same site as Bearded Theory but thats late may, and mid august for bloodstock always notches up the heat a tad - they had mid thirties a couple of years ago, the corpse paint doesnt take it well!

Meanwhile in Chicago. Rained overnight at Lolla. Now they pushed back opening til the afternoon. But thunderstorms and lightning forecast. Maybe if the city invested in proper drainage they couldve tried to salvage the day.

Crikey.

I remember Muse cancelling a Lolla headline set in 2017 due to a massive thunderstorm after only 3 songs. Clearly this is an area of the world where the storms don't f**k around.

    • I still think they might take another shot at the normal weekend.    I'm also pretty sure this exact same speculation was happening after the last one.

    • Wasn't just me who thought it was either oversold or inadequately setup for the event then? For Pride, over the weekend, where there's also acts in the large blue marquee that was to the right of the "arena" (for want of a better term), it's probably much better as people are dispersed more. Thought the band were great, as was Nick, though he was clearly struggling with his voice at times.
    • I got in for £11.25 in the end, which was absolutely ridiculously good value, and made the queues and overselling of the venue much more tolerable! Sniping in on other people’s unwanted tickets on the day of an event might become my new hobby I think 🥳
