Tyler Ballgame playing in Bristol 3rd Sept, and a couple of nights in London/Manchester before... no dates after the 3rd...

 

Missed him last year (think it was pissing down and gave up to find shelter)... but have loved all his tunes since.

 

Could he be added to the bill?

He said to a few people at an instore that he isnt playing this year. Green Man i believe

Missed his drenched set too, but lucked out seeing him in a late night Tipi tent set (as it will always be called). He and his band were bloody good.

Strange how my recollection of that Tyler Ballgame set was that it was one of the few dry spells we had! Funny how the mind plays tricks on you. I was definitely there because I remember Stuart Murdoch joining him

Green Man has nothing on the EOTR line-up. EOTR undercard blows theirs out the water...

 

The second tier of names at GM maybe just pips EOTR (Beta Band, Sparks, Smerz) but the rest of the line-up nowhere near as good in my opinion! EOTR looking much more experimental and explorative 🙂

Completely agree on all points.

 

Plus the headliners are not bad but surely everyone who wanted to see Wilco, Mogwai, Wolf Alice and Four Tet has done so by now. They've all been touring relentlessly since forever.

I won't speak much on the headliners because I think the EOTR headliners are a bit rubbish, too - but that's just how these things go, increasingly, with big name headliners to sell tickets and a strong undercard. Wolf Alice, to be fair to Green Man, are huge but my God are they dull... Wilco, Mogwai and Four Tet all good acts, but do make one shrug a little.

 

I was mostly thinking about the undercards, and I think End Of The Road has the far more interesting undercard. I used to believe Green Man got the more interesting and 'out there' bills, but EOTR definitely wins this time round.

Will note that Melody's Echo Chamber is at two European festivals the weekend after GM and hasn't been included.

 

In other news Ty Segall has been added to the Sunday's Edinburgh Psych Fest, which means he's almost certainly on Friday.

Very much agree with this. Really like the experimental edge which eotr has maintained in recent years. The depth it gives stands out in contrast to the safeness of GM.

That said, and to contradict myself, the Saturday with Haley Heynderickx, Ora Cogan and Sir Richard Bishop is making me jealous.

Everyone on the GM thread is raving about the lineup and glad I’m not alone in being underwhelmed. Having said that it might be because I happen to have seen a lot of the acts recently so don’t find it too exciting, whereas that’s not the case for EOTR. I remain satisfied getting a EOTR ticket was the right call.

More constructively: people have got what they wanted out of both line-ups, and that's broadly a good thing. The one fly in the ointment is that Pulp appear to have sold out (going by the promoter) their 26,000 capacity Wythenshawe Park gig but 15,000 capacity EOTR hasn't even put out a 'tickets low' message.

Wouldn't worry about that at all. EOTR will definitely sell out as it always does.

EOTR is more than 3 times the cost though - and while it's a great festival, it's an absolute pain in the arse to get to. So I can see why fans of Pulp who aren't as fussed about the rest of the lineup / don't know that EOTR is great would give it a swerve.

 

Maybe also doesn't help that Wythenshawe went on sale first with some version of a "only UK show" message. I initially bought a ticket on that basis. Though personally EOTR is the preferable option for me so have now (easily) sold the Manchester ticket.

EOTR is going to have no problems with sales this year. None whatsoever.

Still very happy with the EOTR lineup but can't help feeling a little envy of GM this year... great headliners for me and a lot of names further down that I would've loved to see at EOTR - Aldous Harding/Wednesday/Joanne Robertson/Maria Somerville/Horsegirl/Cut Worms. Usually think EOTR lineup trounces GM, but maybe they have the stronger female acts this year?

 

If anyone has discovered some gems on the undercard similar to the names above do share - listening my way through it atm

How about these, I didn’t know any of them before line up came out- Cardinals, Jeffery Lewis, Ghostwomen, Greazy Alice, Lily Songbird, Mozart Estate, Wild Pink, David Thomas Broughton
