2026 line-up speculation

Why is everyone convinced there is another garden headliner coming? could they not be all from existing list e.g the Lucinda Williams/Kurt Vile/Ty Segall level?

Lucinda and Ty are both playing Friday, Kurt and SFA both Sunday, which of the second tier artists on the first poster leaves Fat Dog (who could certainly sub Woods but Garden headliner is less certain) and Beverly-Glenn Copeland, confirmed for Saturday but on the line-up page is listed below Working Men's Club who definitely aren't at that level.

Green Man has nothing on the EOTR line-up. EOTR undercard blows theirs out the water...

The second tier of names at GM maybe just pips EOTR (Beta Band, Sparks, Smerz) but the rest of the line-up nowhere near as good in my opinion! EOTR looking much more experimental and explorative 🙂

Both have great line-ups from top to bottom imo.  2 uniquely great festivals and in an ideal world I'd happily go to both.

Louder for those at the back - Green Man headliners First Aid Kit are not headlining the second stage at the smaller festival three and a half weeks before their only UK date.

Ha I want to reach the same conclusion but now remember saying more or less the same thing about SFA (and I wasnt the only one)!

Yeah but the idea of them not being a headliner seemed ridiculous (to me at least). I mean we had Sleaford Mods as a headliner!

It was a post-pandemic recovery year, short on international options.

Throwing out a wildcard for Garden headliner. Richard Dawson is beginning to turn up on festival lineups around late summer. He loves the festival, has appeared at different levels on the bill and would be a great counterpoint to the main stage headliner. Even better if he brings along Hen Ogledd and Rhodri Davies.

God I hope not. Would be a very stale booking - I think his 4th time in nine years.

'stale' seems an odd phrase. They've had multiple acts reappearing in multiple years. Yo la tengo are referred to as a house band. Cmat is there two years in a row. BC, NR are regulars. I'd rather someone with close links to the festival get elevated on the second stage than have a hyped Cameron Winter-style headliner who will be irrelevant to the festival in 2 years

Yo La Tengo have played twice (2) since 2018.

If as speculated Richard Dawson headlines he'll have played four times (4) since 2018.

Hope this helps.

Definitely helps thanks.  4 times out of 8 festivals would indeed be as stale as stale can be 🙄

Twice in three years, and I'd think it's for special reason given she's become an enormous deal since last playing. Also, "Cameron Winter will be irrelevant in two years' time" (about someone whose band played EOTR in 2022 and were just on SNL) is a very strange angle to take. This is the festival that nearly had Beirut headline in 2019.

This is a misquote. I said "irrelevant to the festival" as in, it is highly unlikely that they will be back as they will be mega. My point being that the festival has a spirit of raising someone up if they feel it fits rather than picking the biggest name available.

Anyway, I thought this was a speculation thread not a sh*t on the speculation, so moving on...

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
