Indeed! Music is very subjective. There isn’t wrong or right just different taste.

Indeed. Werchter big pool currently as it looks will be potentially only 1 of two festivals they do. And if the other is Mad Cool you might not hear that early but I would think they would make an exception to this? I mean they didnt get LP so I dont think apart from NIN they got like a huge 9 year come back wait.

I’d personally be very surprised if the 2 festivals (if it’s only 2) added aren’t Rock Werchter and Copenhell.  The dates and the fact one of them moved their own dates makes too much sense.  If you believe comments elsewhere too they’re not playing in Portugal or Spain either.

I don´t think they will play Copenhell either. On the website of Strawberry arena (the Swedish venue for SOADs tour), they specify that Sweden will be the only Scandinavian summer date for SOAD. So Werchter looks even more likely if they don´t do Roskilde or Copenhell.

I think Sam Fender will be on the lineup, but likely with a strong support or in a co-headlining capacity. It’s typical for festivals to invite an artist back if they’ve had to cancel for health reasons.

I can't see it as a headliner....purely because it seems to struggle this year. Similar to the strokes in 2020, never came back because they didn't pull in the numbers to justify the fee.

I'm not so sure about that. It seemed that there was a lot going on behind closed doors regarding that cancellation – Didn‘t he have voice problems the whole week before the festival?
There was also an article/interview after the festival in which Herman Schueremans which stated:

Of Sam Fender volgend jaar alsnog zijn opwachting maakt op de weide, daar denkt Schueremans nog even over na. "We waren ontgoocheld. Ik denk dat de man zich wat beter moet organiseren, maar het blijft een fantastische artiest. We zien wel."

english translation:

Schueremans is still considering whether Sam Fender will make an appearance on the festival grounds next year. “We were disappointed. I think he needs to organize himself a little better, but he remains a fantastic artist. We'll see.”

That doesn’t sound like something I’d say if I definitely planned to book him next year.

I don;t see SOAD at Mad Cool. That festival is becoming prgressively more pop.. would seem like a strange booking to me, although I may be wrong...

I dont see how PJ and NIN would be much difference but by all accounts they are not playing Spain or Portugal. It would be mad if Werchter was fest exclusive.

He has been known for it though, it's not a one off

Yeah I think I agree with you here. They tend to sometimes secure headliners a year, even two in advance on occasion. The contract will have been for Fender to play this year and they won't have had him on the radar previously for 2026.

Biggest example I can think of in recent memory is when the Foos cancelled in 2015, even that tour had to wait until 2017 to be rescheduled because nearly all of the slots around the fests they were doing had already gone for the year after.

SOAD are a metal band. They're nothing like PJ. NIN a little more so, but still far heavier. I honestly don;t see them at Mad Cool but like I said, could be wrong.

They won't but PJ and NIN are along the same kinda pushing brackets. Download wouldn't have attempted to get PJ and Van Halen if they didnt fit the bracket

The special show they are talking about could be in Armenia. And Werchter still announced next to it. There's nothing special about Werchter on this run.

Someone on festileaks said the same too. You’re right though defo nothing special about Werchter.  I’m not a fan but my mate is so hopefully they’re there for him anyway.

There is nothing special per say, but if Werchter are only the festivals on the run of 9 shows next summer then that can't be disregarded as a bit special.

Apart from The Cure, they are absolutely the best booking this year the festival could book. Outside of booking Macca, nothing is going to come close to that.

Was mode speaking from SOAD’s perspective as announcing a special gig.  For Werchter of course it would be a good get.

I may be wrong but convinced IOW and RW don’t really share so can’t see The Cure there.
