Monday at the fest

Little Thief

Recommended Posts

Luckily managed to secure tickets in the resale yesterday but had very limited coaches left available to and from the festival.

My coach home on the Monday is the latest I would have ever left the site post-festival - a 6pm-er!

What of the festival site will still be operating on the Monday up to that point? Will there still be food stalls going for example?

Thanks!

The stalls are usually open selling food (breakfast) and from what I recall when I left late (ish) in 2016 at about 1pm you can pick up lunch if you're lucky.

You might be able to pack up and leave your stuff at the lock ups and wander the site until 4pm or so?

Lock ups shut at noon except I think the one in big ground which is a little later. Most traders are de-rigging as they can leave from 5pm. Some are open for lunch(around the market area) but it might be worth seeing if there is an earlier coach you can jump on.

where are you travelling to?

The lock ups close at midday on Monday @Little Thief so whatever you do make sure you keep your belongings with you? Anything not collected from the lock ups by midday is taken to Worthy Welfare and it can be after 4pm when you can collect from there!

Perhaps try and board an earlier coach if there is space? 😊

If you've got a time for the coach home, then presumably that means you're going to London or Bristol?

In which case just turn up early, and it's likely you'll be able to jump on an earlier one. You might have to wait a bit, but still end up leaving site sooner.

Or alternatively if you want a bit more of a guarantee, buy a National Express single ticket for the time of your choosing.

We always hang around until just before 6pm before leaving.  (After 6pm, the traders are allowed to leave site, so for drivers it's best to be on the road before then to avoid that traffic.)  Most of the catering places will be shutting up shop, but you'll still find a few that are either selling, or giving away, food.  Part of the fun is wandering around to see what you can find.

Your big challenge is going to be finding somewhere to stow your luggage so it won't get collected by the recycling crew or the many people that go round collecting abandoned tents etc.  Personally, I'd head towards Ped Gate A and have a look round for whatever secure locations you can find.  For example, there'll be a few workers campsites in that direction with security still operational, and you should be able to sweet-talk them to allow you to leave a few rucksacks in or around their cabin for a few hours.  (Obviously, keep your valuables on you.)

Pretty sure that late is National Express rather than see

Be careful with that.  We discovered one year that after a certain point in time in the Monday everything in lockups is moved to a single location, my son had to wait until about 3:30pm to be able to grab his car keys and satnav as it took a while for them to move all the stuff from individual lockups to the central one.

Thanks all - sounds like maybe try and blag an earlier coach home is the name of the game.

On a similar topic, has anyone had any experience getting dropped off at Bath and West showground on the Weds late morning and shuttling in?

I’d resigned myself to not getting tickets, so had booked a holiday in Devon for the week of Glastonbury. Rather than cancelling, we’re considering bringing it forward a week with me then getting dropped off for the fest on the way back to London.

How insane would the roads be around the site circa midday? My ride doesn’t have a ticket and I’m hesitant to force them to sit in hours or traffic!

I'd rather go to Devon for a week after the festival myself! 😄

Yes - looking at the Wednesday Seetickets departures, the latest possible return this year for London is 16:30 or for Bristol it's 14:30. I don't have the times for Thursday departures this year, but in the past they didn't tend to be any later than the equivalent Wednesday ones.

Lockups crew here. As you point out, all lock ups (except Pyramid) close at midday on Monday.

Anything left then gets taken to the Pyramid lockup, where it stays until that closes at 4pm.

It can take a while to get to Pyramid though, as there's just the one van going round the site!

So the lesson is, best to collect your things before midday!

Last year there were still hundreds of people at the stone circle about 2pm, showing no signs of leaving!

I left around that time in 2017. Food traders tend to sell what they have stockwise then pack up themselves so its a lottery.  Best to keep some sbacks back just in case.

There was still 20-30 people partying in the Stone Circle at that time

B&W is a bit out the way,  I reckon your mate can drop you off without hitting a load of festival traffic if you plan the route nicely. When I drove in (Tues) and out (Monday) in 2022 didn't come across much festival traffic.

Only caveat to that is if loads of people get dropped off at the same time. But from memory the drop off point was never manically busy on the Wednesday.

Last year the drop off and pick up was busy until after noon at bath and western, so ensure you have water.

My coach doesn't depart until like 2:30-3pm that afternoon. May also consider just getting a separate National Express busticket back, cause having to loiter around for a few hours with nothing open sounds kinda lame.

Also read that thieves try to steal stuff from unattended tents during the day, so it seems it's best to stay put on camp.

That's.. complicated. But yeah.

Yes, it happens. Probably less so now than it used to say 10-15 years ago, but I'd definitely be wary about leaving anything unattended in a public campsite past about noon.

It started off as "tatting" - going through genuinely abandoned stuff and seeing what could be of use (tents, equipment, alcohol, substances) rather than sending everything to landfill. The problem became (and while it's a lot more discouraged now) that it was increasingly used as a cover for outright thievery and so someone could go for a piss and find some chancer going through their (obviously in the process of packing up) stuff.

Ha that’s amazing!

It’s more than possible that the majority are actually incapable of leaving.
