2025 Headliners

One thing that slightly bothers me about the Neil Young rumours, and did even moreso when he was initially mentioned for the Legends Slot is how controlling and restrictive he can be when it comes to allowing his stuff to be broadcast / streamed

The story last time was that he eventually only allowed something like 3 songs, and that was only a last minute decision - in the lead up to the festival, the BBC were unsure how much if any they were going to be allowed to show and so had contingency plans in place.

These days, exactly how much the BBC and GFL can use, and for how long (short version: loads) is written into the standard Artist Terms and so either he'd have to allow a *lot* more coverage than he did last time, or he'd have to negotiate an exception.

I assume an exception is possible, especially if the festival really want an act and are prepared to make extra concessions to get them, but I think there's certain "prestige" slots where they'd probably want to avoid doing so - with headliners (and the legend slot) definitely being ones they'd want shown. Can't help but wonder whether some kind of "special guest" type affair without that expectation / requirement would be possible.

Almost definitely an exception could be negotiated, plus isn’t Shaky one of Michael’s favourite artists?

I don’t think many will want to stand in the way of Michael getting a bucket list moment and demand televised slot or he can’t be booked, they can even broadcast Charli if she is indeed the counter programming.

Pulp any night, any stage would win the weekend for me. Can’t imagine a clash that would take me away from that. Be great to see them on Pyramid though

If Pulp play and I'm working then this could be the first time I try to swap shifts. Never bothered before and I first stewarded in 2003

I didn’t move from the pyramid stage that year and regret nothing:

CSN

Spinal Tap

just reformed Specials

Fear era Lilly Allen

Madness

Tom Jones

Quo

Cave

NERD

Rolf (we didn’t know)

Prime era Dizzee

Kasabian before they fell off a cliff.

Superb!

Same! I was there for all of them. Had a great time!

First time I volunteered for Green Traffic I presented them with a list of acts I wanted to see, with priorities. It worked

But if Neil Young is granted an exception, wouldn't other artists demand the same in the future?

There have been other artists that didn't have the whole headline set shown - most notably Bowie and the Stones.

I'm pretty sure that when Bowie played, the coverage agreement wasn't written into it in the same way it now is.

Not sure about when the Stones played, but even if it was - it's the Stones.

And the festival reserves the right to dictate who they allow exceptions to or not. They aren’t struggling for choice.

I don't think this is worth that much thought. They'll show it or they won't.

With Michael being the age he is and Neil being maybe his favourite artist I wonder if they're willing to compromise a little on how much they pay for him as a one off.

But that being said - I'm in my mid 20s and my whole Glastonbury group would be buzzing Neil Young playing, and I reckon most of us would go down the front for it. I've looked at his past setlists and he seems reluctant to play all the hits - but I'm sure that doesn't matter, and won't detract from the incredible show he'll put on

Number 1 artist on Spotify, top percentage of listeners? Pah! A true Neil Young fan knows that NYA is where it's at! 😜

Tbf I forgot Neil Young took his stuff down from Spotify and then put it back up again. So clearly I'm not that strongly in the loop with all his happenings.
