I could absolutely see Taylor signing on after finding out The 1975 and Olivia are the other two headliners because that's the kind of petty weirdo she is and part of why her whole vibe is antithetical to the fest.

Pulp would probably be my suggestion for the counter-programming fwiw. Although I like the shouts for Prodigy and Charli, can't see people being particualrly arsed by stuff like Courteeners, 'Phonics, and KoL any more enough to miss an era-defining (pardon the pun) gig

There's no way Taylor Swift would get a bigger crowd than Elton.

 

I was at QOTSA and it was absolutely empty.

 

So many older people would be swayed by any  kind of band over Taylor (let alone 3 other main stage options + early SEC + arcadia + whatever else!)

Consider that QOTSA were opposite Elton, and managed to get a third/half full crowd, it feels impossible.

Counterprogramming by having someone from another genre to appeal to those who aren't into Taylor. QOTSA and Elton was a bad move because they are still ultimately both rock music. I would think QOTSA and Taylor would go down better than that went honestly, less crossover appeal.

I was always planning on being at QOTSA but got talked into doing the first half of Elton by my Glasto family before getting a jog on to the Other. The quietness was eerie though have to give major props to the one person who was going full beans dancing to a set in the BBC Introducing tent with it all to themselves! 100% no regrets as QOTSA were incredible, maybe I could have left Elton a tad earlier...

 

If it is Taylor Swift, who I have no interest in, I would definitely be tempted by a mooch round a quiet site!

It would be nice to have Pulp sub pyramid to get a mega crowd for a final send out (and i want to see both mostly).

 

Courteeners aren't big enough to do other to begin with.

 

KOL would definitely pull a bigger crowd than qotsa got, stereophonics also might.

 

I doubt they'd clash her with Charli (i also doubt she's playing!)

Pulp or Prodigy is a good shout. Charli I think is actually quite a bad shout, because in spite of the apparent feud between the two and in spite of the fact the hardcore fans tend to take a side, most casual fans wouldn't give a sh*t, and I think popularity would ultimately win out

Far more people would be willing to skip Taylor just from the glasto audience. QOTSA are a good pull against her.

 

Elton is a legend for older people and a last chance for younger people, which is why so many people went.

 

People are over estimating her draw massively for people over about 30 years old i think.

I think they’re underestimating 25+, our group at all 25/26 and only about half of us would be keen to see her

Yep. Real Music bores would have found Elton appealing enough to go along with, but could probably be persuaded away from Taylor by some solid meat and potatoes slodge.

32 years old here and I would say the alternative would have to be quite dire for me to opt to watch Taylor Swift. I would sooner go to another stage and see some obscure act to take a chance on, you could walk away with a new favourite artist. That excites me more than the idea of watching Taylor Swift

Yeah if they were even bothered about splitting the crowd it'd have to be someone rare. In other situations I'd be off to see Stereophonics as my #1 choice over most artists, and would watch KoL against many artists too, but not in this situation for either. I'd pick Taylor over Pulp too, though that wouldn't be the case if I hadn't seen them twice in 2023 and in theory could just go to Tramlines

Dont forget Charli. And she will def jet into the festival on top of that. I am sure Emily knew what she was doing getting those 2 bookings and what it would do for a possible future headliner. Then she will do 4 hours of her acting shocked!

Feels a bit of a reach that Emily would book Olivia, The 1975 and Charli, just to smoke out Taylor. All a bit tin foil hat.

 

Was Rod Stewart part of this masterplan too?

Shes the biggest streaming artist on Spotify etc and it isn’t even close.

She’s got a massively wide popular appeal - from teens, the millennials who grew up with her music, plus now a much wider older audience now that ahe’s gone stratospheric with the eras tour.

It would essentially become a Taylor Swift takeover, all the press and hype would be around her being there.

 

Of course there’ll be a chunk of punters watching Mogwaii (insert random band) in Woodsies or whatever, but it would be a ludicrous crowd.

 

if she is the biggest artist on Spotify then why is she bottom 10 on listeners currently. Youre still overestimating it all and when the festival audience will not be made up of her core audience  cause its going to be quite different then if people had a choice to buy tickets or not. I still think people would get bored if she tried a 3 Hour set cause again, how many actual hits does she have that your mum knows off hand?
