Yes not much there for the younger crowd is there? Bands like Manics and Texas are like something you'd see at Hyde Park before getting into your BMW in the safe multi-storey car park.

Oddly enough, I was only chatting to my teenage son the other day about watching the Manics.

He's keen, I'm completely indifferent. We'd agreed to get tickets next time they were in Cardiff, but here we are...

Unless there's a clash, pretty much nailed on that we'll be there

Letting all this sink in, there do seem to be a lot of acts with a big "where might they play" question - and a load presumably still to be announced, which add to the traffic jam.

We currently (pretty much) know:

  • All 3 Pyramid headliners (AM, GnR, Elton John)
  • 2 Pyramid subs (Lizzo Sat, Lil Nas X Sun)
  • 2 Other headliners (Wizkid Fri, Lana Del Rey Sat)
  • 1 Other sub (Fred Again Fri)
  • 1 WH headliner (Loyle Carner Sat)
  • 2 JP headliners (Hot Chip Fri, Christine & The Queens Sat)

Then there are a load of acts who are (or certainly have been) at this kind of level:

  • Alt J are a previous Other headliner
  • Fatboy Slim headlines wherever he plays - although that could be Silver Hayes
  • Phoenix have JP headlined in the past
  • Royal Blood are at least sub level
  • War On Drugs were mooted as a JP or Park headliner
  • Manic Street Preachers were due to headline the Park in 2020.

Then a load more that people are expecting/hoping for in the inevitable future announcements - including Sam Smith, Rosalia, Pulp, The Prodigy, Queens of the Stone Age, Blackpink, etc.

Obviously not all of those may happen, but it does beg the question of where some of these people are going to play?

Either we end up with a pretty stacked lineup at the end of the day, or some big acts will be getting pushed into "smaller" slots than they have carried off in the past.

Nobody said they are. But GNR aren’t an all-white band. Slash is mixed race.

This is true. Also Frank Ferrer isn’t white and Melissa Reese isn’t a guy. But they’re still not exactly an excellent poster band for diversity are they?

I appreciate you book who you can get and there are wider problems with the music industry as a whole, but let’s not pretend this set of headliners are something that they’re not. When Guns N Roses are your most diverse band it’s probably not something to shout about!

I often take for granted that just because I’ve seen band x or y 10 times before doesn’t mean everyone (see young people) have. There are plenty of people who aren’t fucking old like me 😂

I think this segment from the Guardian article probably rules this sort of stuff out:

‘After last year’s festival, Mendip district council recommended that the event improve crowd control, following massive turnouts for the likes of Wet Leg and TLC. Eavis admitted that there were some surprise performers, such as Sugababes, who “were a bit too big for the stages that they were booked on. We’re making sure that doesn’t happen this year by not having big surprises in small places”.’

(Oh, and UTA!)

So what's the word on social media?

Landed with a thud or are folks going digitally taps aff?

My group are all very happy with it, then the people I follow on Twitter also all seem pretty positive in regards to the lineup as well - some negativity, but, I have noticed all the ones that I follow that aren't happy with it, don't have tickets anyway!

Rock Werchter (week after Glasto) just added the following names:

zwangere guy, king princess, raye, weyes blood, ashnikko, holly humberstone, the snuts, the reytons, lil lotus, body type, the mary wallopers, black box revelation, bear's den, viagra boys, sons, cmat, hideous, xink, blackwave, vintage trouble, sofi tukker, danielle ponder, the murder capital, just mustard, stone, dead poet society, mayorga, dermot kennedy, inhaler, teskey bros, portland, billy nomates, destroy boys

It’s weird barely any of these are on the poster. Surely acts of their size would be confirmed by now?

I think Glastonbury is going about it the right way aiming for 50/50 across the bill. That’ll allow Female acts to graduate to headlining. As for now if there aren’t Female headliners available there aren’t any-that’s why Emily has never made any promises. What has been made available is three stadium sized acts willing to play for the money on offer, so while I’d much rather have had Swift, or Dua, or Madonna, it is what it is.

Yeah, like I say, I know there are logistical, financial and contractual issues. I think they’ve painted themselves into a corner with previous comments.

Like others are saying though, if Lizzo isn’t big enough to headline, why have they listed her as a headliner in the poster? It seems they want it both ways, and this is where the main issue is for me. The 3 actual headliners sends off a poor message IMO.

The article says: "Guns N’ Roses were booked when a previously confirmed female headliner pulled out because she “changed her touring plans”, said Eavis. She declined to name names but said she hoped they would headline within the next five years.  Lizzo will open for the US rockers and has joint headline billing. “She could totally headline,” said Eavis, adding that the Pyramid stage often sees bigger crowds in the afternoon than at night. “Many of the artists could. But the headline slot had already been promised to someone else.”"

It reads pretty clear to me that they'd booked GnR before they had chance to get Lizzo on board.
