Headliners 2023

Exactly. They’re conscious of trying to get a 50/50 line up. They won’t always manage it, especially with headliners. For obvious reasons. Nobody should be surprised if they have all male headliners, as Emily herself says it’s a possibility.

You, as many do here, shared an incomplete quote that missed a fundamental aspect of her message.

Don't ignore "some years hopefully where you have all female" - that's equally important and you do yourself a disservice in excluding it.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Florence was a back up option, but I think they did the right thing going for GNR, as between the two, GNR is the infinitely bigger name.

Florence is firmly in the too big to sub too small to headline bracket now.

Some interesting shouts here. I was thinking Skrillex for JP and Fred on WH but I suppose with that thing about the latter playing JP it could work.

I wouldn't count on that info at all, i was the one who got told it and only even posted it as the source was so ridiculous

Skrillex headlined other last time. Can’t see a drop from that. Needs the darkness so tent/headline is about it. It was mint by the way, but I was well spangled.

Definitely dropping from other.

Right now I think hes JP honestly - but lets see how the album etc does.

I think he’s other headliner sized tbh but I don’t think he’s in line for that slot.

If they didn’t have the Prodigy as an other headliner I’d consider him a prime candidate for the dance OS headline slot. Especially if he comes back with a few Brit awards.

Skrillex is not even nominated for anything

Thoughts on this reddit exchange?

I think GNR are bigger

Frank Ocean could probably do a massive tour off pent up demand but then if he tried to do it 3 years later would be far smaller

Silly argument anyway i'd say

It's a difficult one. GnR are quite clearly the bigger act from global perspective and have obviously enjoyed greater success over a longer period of time. But the bigger headliner in 2023? I'm not sure. Probably depends on the festival. For Coachella, I'd say Ocean. For Glastonbury, I'd say GnR. In which case, both festivals have pitched it just about right. Anyone would think they've been doing this for a long time.

Oh yeah I don’t see it happening at all, I think WH or maybe even Other for Fred. You’ll know more than me for Skrillex, not someone I follow at all but I do think JP makes sense.

They've got about the same volume of popular music but it's impossible to gauge how big a live draw F. Ocean really is given he's only ever played a few dozen gigs and a decent sized chunk of those have been festivals.

GnR would be a better booking for the G. Less chance of it flatlining.

More chance of GNR attending too haha

Is there any reason Madonna isn't talked about more seriously as a possibility?

I quoted that bit 🤷‍♂️

Is there any reason Madonna isn't talked about more seriously as a possibility? Would certainly be more interesting than either AM or GnR.

In terms of actually being booked for 2023? Because there isn’t a scrap of info from any source to suggests she’s booked, whereas for GnR and AM there is.

In terms of being booked generally, she’s mega expensive. Obviously she’d be a no brainer booking if they could get her to do it for the knockdown fee though. Probably falls into the Fletwood Mac camp until we know otherwise.

Lord I hope not.  I try not to be a hater, but I don't have a lot of nice things to say about her.  I realize I am in the mega minority though. If it happens, I'll just be happy there are other stages to go to.

I don’t think your average UK punter will have heard of Frank Ocean. He’s genuinely not a big name here.

Load of bollocks.

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
    • I was fully prepared (waterproof jacket, extra pair of socks, foldable umbrella), but after four hours in the rain (from Geese through Oklou to Florence Road), it was just too much. Already at the hotel, let's hope tomorrow's better.
    • It’s rare that I watch question time, but I almost felt sorry for Kenyon, he seemed like a guy just brought off the street which effectively is what he was, made worse by the fact Burnham and the Tory guy were very strong debaters. I think Burnham was very aware not to go too hard on Kenyon and risk him getting sympathy, in fact he pretty much ignored him.
    • Shambles. Transport and comms garbage. Been looking forward to this since last June and have never been to a more disorganised festival in 30+ years.  Why we were told the whole festival was cancelled for the night if they had put back shows for a few hours?  Pissed off to say the very least and put a huge downer on the rest of the weekend.
