Headliners 2023

My main problem with GnR isn't that they don't have good songs, Appetite is full of bangers but they haven't sounded good live for years, Axls voice has absolutely had it, I don't understand why people keep booking them.

If they still had it then there wouldn't be an issue.

Im going to be absolutely gutted if Elton Clashes with QoTSA.

That's on you for hanging around a forum where this is all pored over in detail. 90% of attendees will hear it first in an announcement.

Maybe, but even then its not every year such clarity is seemingly known at this stage, there is always the possibility of curveballs.

That 90% figure is also incredibly arbitrary and its not like the same rumours have effectively been confirmed in any local or national media outlets...oh, hang on.

I feel more disappointed with the lack of anticipation and surprise for any Headliner announcement than the actual quality (or not) of the artists themselves at the moment.

When the inevitable info does seem to come it'll just be ratification of something already discussed at length rather than exciting news to digest.

Then I would say this forum isn't for you. The fun of this forum for me. is the discussion, the rumours and the left field predictions that lead a 5 page discussion, then when the line up starts coming out, its seeing those left field predictions come out and bands you'd never thought would happen.

This forum suggests so many different combinations of the top 3 that normally by November, someone has either got it right through sheer force of power @Matt42 suggesting 5 different acts a day (kidding, kidding) or through people coming in here with actual info thats come to light further on @roughbloke

Guns and Roses are a curveball.  Prior to them popping up as a rumour people thought Taylor was a lock and were similarly demanding surprises.

i just think they're a very poor booking in 2023 for a headliner for a world-leading festival like glastonbury

There's a fair few people on your side for that, including me. I think the issue was when you were attacking people personally for even suggesting that it could be them.

@Neil if this is the trio, is there a (remotely realistic) legends booking that would get you back in on them alone? curious

possibly, tho i can't think of what name could have that effect.

The legend still remains a genuine mystery does it not?

It's usually one of the first to be announced and last few years we've had it by Christmas.

Makes me wonder if it's someone contracted elsewhere that they can't announce yet (Robbie).

Yup. I fell off the discussion when we were talking about Roxy Music, I presume this isn't in the cards anymore? It could genuinely be anyone at this point. Robbie would be fun.

i was attacking the ridiculous story around them, and felt people shoyuld be more diserning than to believe it.

gnr don't seem very glastonbury. if they were very glastonbury, then glastonbury would have booked them 20+ years ago.

I think it has to be considered that GnR of 20 years ago was not the same proposition as it is today. Others may disagree with this, but as far as I can tell at that point it was essentially Axl with some hired hands and a deserved reputation for turning up 90 minutes or more late for shows.

In the last few years, a couple of the original core members have rejoined, including Slash who was always the best thing about the band and has successfully played Glastonbury himself, and by all accounts the band actually turn up on time now.

Christ that's massive aint it?

GnR, Lizzo & Capaldi the same day?

At the risk of Adele-ing this... are we absolutely *positive* it's Capaldi playing under GnR and not the other way around? AM/Capaldi/Elton feels way more modern Glastonbury to me...

Don't be silly, GnR is above Capaldi any day of the week. Even though they're shit.

Also my issue, appetite is a pretty solid album but their back catalog is very very poor

Im quite happy to not spend every night at the pyramid this year as I did that last year. Yes I loved every act I saw but it would be nice to see some headliners elsewhere

Funniest post of 2023 and will last for the year. The rumour we originally got was that GnR was headlining, Neil has now heard the same and from the same person that Capaldi is on the same day. Come on now.

I'm of to buy my kids GnR shirts...

Still got my one from 87 somewhere, it would probably fit them 😄 How do your kids feel about Faster Pussycat, they get a mention on the back?

To anyone complaining about one, two or three acts, wherever their placement on the card, I'd suggest pointing them towards previous years timetables. I've picked out three at random below. If you can't find something to enjoy at any time over the five days, then I'd suggest this festival ain't for you. It's a ridiculous amount of choice, and we're spoilt beyond belief every year.

2014 - https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/line-up/line-up-2014/

2017 - https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/line-up/line-up-2017/?stage

2019 - https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/line-up/line-up-2019/

Do 2016 you coward! 😁

I'm just not seeing the value argument at all. The gigs I have booked for this year are £24, £65 and £100 for three sizes of acts. That's over half of my Glasto ticket on three bands. You'd have to actively TRY not to watch stuff at Glasto to not get good value out of it when you could see 21 without even moving from a camping chair.

It isn't just three bands though. Each of those gigs will probably have two supports, so it's 9 acts for half your Glastonbury ticket. At least three of which are presumably must-sees for you. If you can find another three shows that's 18 acts vs 21.

Still better value, but not quite as convincing. And if you have mobility issues then you're likely getting a better view at most of those shows (with tiered seats in arenas/stadiums).

    • I think a Take to the Skies set would probably be the thing that gets me to go to this. Couldn't give a f**k whatelse is on there if that happens.   Feel like Knocked Loose might be too big by that point.
    • Issac Wood in support????   A lot here to digest
