Not really headliner related but I'm really enjoying Justin Hawkins' YouTube channel, best music YouTuber around at the minute. I wonder what the chances of The Darkness appearing would be? Other Stage opener or maybe a mid slot on the Pyramid?

I doubt they'd be booked for other opener. quite before my time and i know they did big slots in the early 2000s at festivals but they dropped off a cliff is my understanding

Could do a Mcfly style Avalon set. Would be very popular I think

Convinced you’re living about 20 years in the past if you think the darkness would get a prominent slot at Glastonbury 2023. Guy is a nobody now.

The slots I mentioned aren't exactly prominent.

I've watched tonnes of music channels, Justin offers a lot of interesting and unique perspectives. My opinion though.

Other opener is a special slot - therefore prominent.

It's not really a "special slot", it just usually goes to older more established acts who would normally be playing elsewhere.

There are only about 27 pyramid slots a year and you want one to go to the bloody darkness? I beg you to branch out from what was big in 2005.

I merely suggested mid Pyramid as a possible slot.

Oh I'm not discrediting their size, I was just saying that size does not always equal a good show.

You can't dispute that it was bloody popular though, the crowd were standing on and behind the footpaths at the back.

I was a few rows in front of the sound desk but glad ot hear it was popular. I mean its a fairly big band thats of a popular demographic of music for Glastonbury on very early on Friday with not much else of that size to go against it so it should really have a big crowd.

Yeah I think I was going through on the way somewhere and watched for a bit, but it was busier than most of the shows I saw there (except PSB).

You're right about the vocals, they were a bit erm sub optimal.

Pretty standard for The Libertines  even on their best days!

    • Hot on the heels of outdoor gig number 1, the second arrived quickly! Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in Malahide last night (lovely sunny evening for it!). As usual, fantastic gig (ebbed and flowed from tender to feral). Since they aren't touring an album it was very different to the Wild God shows from last year, with a bunch of tracks that hadn't been played in a good while wheeled out. Highlights for me were a blistering rendition of Hiding All Away (that merged into the end of White Elephant) and a touching interpretation of A Rainy Night in Soho to close the set (well after curfew!). @Superscally, still nothing from Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! (they really must not like that album!)
    • I’m putting the 2026 code and it’s not applying the discount. Does somebody know why?
    • I think I’ve asked this before, but do we know why this is a ‘never happen’ one? I understand with Queen and Duran Duran, but I’ve never seen anything written saying one way or another if they’d do it. Would be an incredible get.
    • Here we goooo!   I never thought I'd say this at Prima Porto, famous for its rainy weather... I wish it'd be a bit colder ;D
    • I saw an interview the other day with Simon and he was asked about Glastonbury legends spot and he did say they consider themselves headliners and also said something like "The legends slot is a kind of headline slot" The actual wording might be slightly different but it gave an indication that maybe?
