I’ve always assumed it’s something people say they’ll do just to ensure it happens, then we all watch, smiling from a stationary position as security humiliate themselves again.

It's not even security,for the most part. It's ringers from T&C in Security Polo Shirts doing it and occasionally one or two of the real security crew might make a token / half hearted effort to join in.
