Saw Madame Claude at The Snug in Atherton last night. Brilliant band and venue. Brogeal at Gorilla later on.

English Teacher supported by Orielles last night in Leeds (didn't get there early enough for other support act  Group A.D.)

 

Really enjoyed English Teacher. Orielles overall good but some songs didn't grab me as much as others)

 

Had some really loud gig chatterers nearby for a while which was somewhat annoying but all told a good night.

Busy week for gigs the last week:

 

Babyshambles in Brixton - Rowdy crowd and great to hear songs live again which haven’t been played in over a decade. Hope they record new music after this tour. Side note every time I go to Brixton, l’m so glad they saved that venue, lots of happy memories in that place! 

 

CMAT Brighton Dome - picked up a last minute ticket, off the back of really getting into her new album. She’s puts on a great entertaining show and the new album sounds better live. 
 

Radiohead O2 - Friday night - it’s been over 13 years since I last saw them. Been persevering for tickets over the last couple of months as didn’t get a code from the initial lottery. Waste sale came good on Wednesday so another last minute ticket purchase! 
 

It was so good to see them back on stage again, I’ve never left one of their shows disappointed. The good thing when a band isn’t promoting a new album is that you get a set list of all the hits, enjoyed the first half which was more Kid A onwards heavy and then deeper cuts in the encore, left hearing most of the songs I had wanted too.

The Cheap Thrills at Liverpool Central Dome last night. One of those bands that are pretty unknown anywhere outside their home city, but sold out a 1,500 capacity venue in a day here.

 

They've only released a few EPs and singles over the years but there's many a banger amongst them. Great atmosphere, great venue, great tunes... marvellous.

 

Support was another local band The Kowloons, young act, few decent songs, one to keep an eye on, and The Covasettes from Manchester, technically decent and good front man but the music didn't grab me.

not my cup of tea... for me they are another of those "seen 'em once and that'll do me" acts (on the same list as Sting)

 

but Mrs -TLR- loves them and is going to see them tomorrow and is hugely looking forward to it.

 

and to be fair that stage setup looks pretty awesome.

Cast at Shepherds Bush on Friday. The band sounded great - although they played the entirety of All Change first so by the end I think some of the crowd lost a bit of interest. A shame the gig was at the Shepherds Bush Empire, which is not a venue that I enjoy going to!

Obongjayar last night at Leeds project house.. really impressed, he's got such a great stage presence and loads of great tunes.  Had the Sunday night crowd going wild.

My Bloody Valentine in Manchester tonight. Scored a free ticket and still left a little underwhelmed… they weren’t helped by the catastrophic sound problems at aviva studios. 
 

On the venue, a fairly soulless box in the city centre. Not a fan.

 

17 year old me wouldn’t have forgave me for not attending though, and you made me realise was a pretty epic closer.

I must have been very near to you, I was also stood at the mixing desk and agree the sound was very good. Shame I didn't know we could have had a good rugby league chat between the support and MBV 🤣

Loved the setlist and hearing honey power was amazing.

Ah, it was cracking! I was next to a couple of youngish fellows and a couple likely in their mid-fifties - but they moved a few rows in front after the chap got immensely fed up of people pushing through directly in front of us all show en-route to the bar/toilets/other destinations.

Yeah that did get a bit frustrating everyone walking by but my missus enjoyed the extra few inches the barrier gave... plus I thought the visuals were pretty cool.

 

I was very near the older chap having the best time dancing with a few people. 

I was pleasantly surprised by all the different ages who went to the gig.

W.A.S.T.E is the official Radiohead website. They did a separate sale for returned production tickets last week for members of the mailing list and managed to get a ticket this way. Always felt they should have originally sold tickets this way rather than through the lottery.

Babyshambles last night at Keele Student union ( Newcastle under lyme)

 

Pete has a way of going unconventional and you've got to love him for it. We had 3 support acts last night and between each one he was exploring the stage, selling his fanzine and taking selfies, and he did the same again after the show at the barrier, i only properly invested in Hak Baker who was superb and Pete joined impromntu for the final song of the set.

 

Babyshambles sounded great, in fine form. Venue felt dead ( walk up get a drink no queues) until just before Babyshambles took to the stage, and even then there was comfortably room and we were central and row 3. The venue itself doesnt really help with atmosphere being a wide shallow room with high ceilings and therefore atmosphere wise it was the opposite of rowdy as i saw it described in Brixton. I imagine this in part contributed to the encore being cut to just pipedown and f**k forever where Brixton got 4 songs, but as it was a school night i didnt have major complaints.

Salarymen at Green Door Store in Brighton last night. Cracking set, really enjoyed it. One for fans of somewhere between the dual M/F vocals of Royel Otis / indie jangle of Alvvays / 70s radio rock of CVC.

 

Got some dates in Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh and London. Would 100% recommend. Lovely to chat to at the merch stand as well.

I saw Fletchr Fletchr at the Louisiana in Bristol last night having caught them at Ritual Union festival earlier this year. Fairly new rock/indie band who supported Catfish and the Bottlemen over the summer. New EP "We All Feel The Same" coming this Friday and I really would recommend. More interesting lyrically than a lot for me

CMAT at the Octagon in Sheffield, last night. Hugely fun show! Chaotic, big-hearted, inclusive... she's got such a stage presence and the songs sound great live.

 

Fancy Hagood supporting, acoustic country-ish, from Tennessee. Really good voice and seems like a nice guy.

Big industrial vibes, NIN vibes, mid 90s Marylin Manson, Dave Gahan. Band are great. Think they could get very big with another good album. Really enjoyed it.

Westside Cowboy at Birkenhead Future Yard on Tuesday.

 

Definitely a band that are going places. You can see whey won the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition this year, they were excellent, looking forward to more releases from them. 

 

Support from Holly Head, kind of post punk stuff, clearly the bass player's band as he took center stage, with the singer/guitar and lead guitarist either side of him and way up in the mix. Could have done with less bass noodling and more guitar.

 

The other support was Hank B. Shades of Hooray For The Riff Raff, quite enjoyed them.

Emotional one for me , after 10 years October Drift announced they are disbanding and after 8 years for me  and I think 14 or so gigs ( my most watched band ) they are calling it a day ... the gig as ever was phenomenal preceded by an acoustic set and then a great mix of different tempo tracks from over the years done to fan requests concluded with my favourite track . The community these guys have put together over the years is great , there was a pre gig meet-up and many many familiar faces . An absolute shame it never got further than it did ... They just seemed to be missing the killer breakthrough track and radio play tbh  , they never  had any  issues selling out the live shows .  IM crossing fingers firmly there will be something from them in the future but it will currently leave a gap or 2 in my diary . Video shows lead singer kiwi taking a fall from the roof bars at Thekla , thankfully he and the people that took a bit of the fall were fine and the show carried on . All the best lads and any fans reading this
