Last night Monochrome Set at the Lexington in Angel playing The Lost Weekend album in full - excellent.

Saw The K’s at The Roundhouse tonight. Second time seeing them after their early Woodsies slot a few years ago. New material sounding brilliant (new album out June), and crowd really up for all the tunes from their first album. Lively crowd. Hoping they might make an appearance this year too, maybe early Other. Almost ready to forgive them their terrible band name

Went to see Throwing Muses last night at the Brudenell.

They've totally passed me by although I did see Kristen Hersh back in 1999. Last minute ticket as was asked by one of my neighbours to go as he had a spare ticket.

Well, I can honestly say that in over 33 years of going to gigs that performance was up there with some of the very best I've experienced. There wasn't a duff moment, every song sounded absolutely incredible, spellbinding, I am still buzzing from it this morning and I didn't sleep well at all from being on such a high!

Mannequin Pussy at Academy 2, great gig though the same routine as Glasto set (probably to be expected) 

 

One thing of note the bit they do about... People getting triggered by the word. PUSSY!!!

Took teenage son to see Tyler the Creator and Lil Yachty at the 02. To my surprise, I didn’t hate it.  Tyler was a brilliant performer and the staging was awesome. Teenage son’s verdict is that it was “lit”. But I’m not allowed to like it or it will instantly be not cool. So, I didn’t hate it ….

Im sure a larger contingent might cross the Atlantaic next year with no Glasto. And seeing as at least 3 brits that I know came all the way, its a good sign. Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City is really hitting their stride as the premiere indie fest in the u.s. with a great lineup from top to bottom. They really do focus on booking great emerging local talent and finding  the other crop from elsewhere. There was a nice batch of smaller uk acts who played early such as Lime Garden, Walt Disco and Orla Gartland. A strong contingent of alternative/shoegaze bands peppered the bill too like Momma, Wisp, Friko,  Gift, Been Stellar and Wishy. Plus Slowdive as a bonus didnt hurt. The big names didnt disappoint and the extra half day with New Order, Devo and Future Islands at the top was a great way to get things going. Lodging and airfare are very cheap for the time frame and its a small city so getting around isnt a big deal. They offer free public transport during the festival weekend by showing your wristband for the bus and the train is similar. Ends sort of early but theres after shows so you can keep things going if you like. Weather was mostly fine this time except for rain for a few hour on Sunday, but it dried up fairly quickly. Food and drink were def on the cheaper side compared to the big festivals and lots of options. You are allowed to go in and out of the fest if you like too. Crowds are great. The vip is worth it if you want to have a separate side of the 2 main stages to view performances. VIP+ gives you a front viewing area that will pretty much guarantee you be within 20 feet from the barricade if youre in the back of it for any performance there. the new addition of havin a stage inside the stadium on the grounds was great. having seats a birds eye view to watch some acts was cool. they had sound issues last year but that was pretty much fixed this year. dates for 2026 should be announced soon and the lineup likely would announce by early december.

Dinosaur Jr - London last night.

 

yep, very good indeed, although i'd expect nothing less.

 

it was a "30 years of without a sound" show - to be honest, Without a Sound and Hand It Over were never my favourite DJ albums, but it was a great performance, and it does include one song i genuinely love in I Dont Think So.

 

after they'd played the album it was then a short greatest hits set - Little Fury Things, Start Choppin, Freak Scene and a truly fantastic rendition of Raisans - definitely my highlight of the night.

 

still one of my all time favourite bands, and i still hold J Mascis as the greatest guitarist of his generation.

 

only really have one grumble - i didnt get my favoutite DJ song - Out There - but i guess maybe he's bored of playing it after the Where You Been shows.

thanks. When going back through I hardly did black and white this weekend cause somehow it didnt totally feel right. I did shoot an entire fest in b/w last year cause it was all hardcore punk bands. No Values.

Was gonna ask about them too! But since they aren’t at Glasto I didn’t. Did you see Weezer? Reckon I’ll be back to back for both then and TVOTR this year (if timing predictions are correct)

its in the photos mate. Weezer does what they do. Youll get a set thats gonna be all hits next month.  Likely the same as Coachella. I covered every act except for 3 out of a possible 75 performing the fest. I dont sit around unless I have to or need to hehe.

Had an amazing day at Radio 1 Big Weekend. It STARTED with an Ed Sheeran secret set in a tent, which I'm so glad we turned up early for. Huge sing along. Then Sugababes, Wolf Alice and Sam Fender were all incredible. One of the best days.

 

We did the Friday too and Biffy were great

No Values 2024. Essentially a 40th year celebration for Goldenvoice the promoter who also put on Coachella just having an event that goes back to its roots. All punk, hardcore and ska bands. oldies like Bad Religion, The Vandals,Social Distortion,  Misfits, The Adicts, the Damned and Fishbone. To the new generation of Turnstile, Power Trip,  Scowl, Soul Glo and Viagra Boys. good times were had all around.
