Shout out to staff at the venue as well

Just a really well organised venue and reasonable bar prices

After managing to miss all four appearances at Glasto last year (the timings just never quite worked out for me!), finally saw techno-punks Fat Dog at XOYO in Brum last night. The set was a bit on the short side but, wow, it was an intense 50 minutes!

 

Unfortunately missed most of the support act cos we were sheltering from an absolutely ridiculous downpour in a nearby pub for 30 minutes after doors opened (19:30) and they must have been on 19:45-20:15, so we didn't make it inside until just after 20:00.

 

Anyway, saw all of what we went for and I have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending the show -- it was loud, flashy, bouncy fun! I have no idea what Joe Love was talking about between songs as there was a LOT of reverb on his mic. One of those shows where I was so into it, I didn't realise quite loud it had been until I left the venue.

Excellent band, new songs are very good so mixed in with crowd favourites they are definitely on it at the moment.

Woodsies slot would go down well I reckon.

Chris de Burgh in Harrogate last night. Nothing too unexpected - it's a solo show with him alternating between twelve-string acoustic-electric and a keyboard in drag as a grand piano, but there were a few reservations from having five or six songs played simply as a backing track, including The Lady in Red. The songs where he got on the keys fared exceptionally well however and he was a pretty natural raconteur. Had a cover of Africa in there for good measure.

Marilyn Manson, Friday night in Hammersmith.

The atmosphere was electric, it was great to see people so invested in the show (a long time since I've such dedicated fans).

The number of cameras (for the entire set) was bit surreal and I felt that he could have done another couple of songs (show was 1hr30, inc two encores). The performance was bang-on though, even after the last few years, he's still got it....

Bug Club in Leeds on Friday.

 

Good gig with couple of good support acts.

 

Only downside was sound where i stood was a bit hit or miss in hearing vocals.

It’s complicated. The County Sheriff’s Dept dropped the case against Brian as they felt there wasn’t enough evidence to secure a conviction.

Mogwai last night in Leeds.

Great atmosphere for a Saturday night at this particular venue.

Naturally Mogwai played a set that playfully balanced between delicate/pulverising.

My wife jumped during 'Like Herod'...... #quietLOUD

Epic Fat Dog gig at 1865 Southampton on Thursday. Crowd totally up for it. Moshing and crowd surfing. Shout out to the middle-aged woman in white sequin mini dress, white Doc Martens and pink net bridal veil who was getting stuck in. Fantastic. Ably supported by young band Y.

Frank Turner show 3000 at the Ally Pally last night, a top night with an enjoyable mix of the new album and the popular tunes. I do love his shows and always come away feel uplifted and warm.

 

Lottery Winners & The Meffs also put on their usual fun sets.

 

Also had the bonus of a few new Frank shirt’s. My other half went off to buy a Frank 3000 show bag during his set as the merch que was crazy long earlier in the evening and we were put off joining it as we both like Lottery Winners @ Meffs. When we got home, she opened the bag and presented me with two different show 3000 T Shirts.

I was at this, also missed the support for the same reason. 😁

 

I saw a bit of them at Lonely Hearts Club last year before I had to head off elsewhere. Enjoyed it a lot on Friday. I thought it would be a short set as the album isn't very long. I hope they're back at Glastonbury this year.

Sunday night found a £5 ticket for Circa Waves + Peace + Corella.

 

I actually went for Peace as I loved them when they started 12 years ago, saw them a bunch at the time.

 

Really, really disappointing. Just overall poor live.

 

Circa Waves, who I've never really been into, were fantastic on the other hand.

I was this also, got to agree Peace were very boring but Corella and Circa Waves i thought were great!

Not only boring but disinterested, mixed poorly and even out of tune lots of the time. Corella showed them up for sure also.
