Similarly teams like Bournemouth arrive in the Prem and are considered the plucky underdogs. We're flogged a story about how they were almost relegated from the football league system but clawed their way to the Prem... Well they were fined for breaking FFP in their promotion season as well. IIRC they weren't hugely popular in the Championship that year for that exact reason.

FFP should be abolished anyway.

Yes, I’ve mentioned Maxim Denim a number of times on here when I’ve read the plucky underdog line that’s often lazily trotted out.

They didn't spunk billions on plyers to ensure winning the league... Which is what city did.

No they spunked millions on getting out of the championship. You can't win the premier league if you're in the championship 🤷‍♂️

At least we all know you are just anti city now.

If spunking billions enables you to win the premier league, why have United not won it since Ferguson retired?

Maybe about to get your wish if Bein sports are right.

It should never have been implemented. It was never about making the playing field fair, it was about ring fencing the elite at the top and giving no one ekse the opportunity to break into it.

Because City spunked more?

Seriously, why are you bothered what City spend? What difference does it make?

Why are you so defensive about it?

It's perfectly ok to admit that you've gotten lucky. You wouldn't be anywhere near the club you are today had you not won the Saudi jackpot, you'd just be another Villa or Newcastle.

That's the difference it makes.

That wasn't even the first thing. Back in the 00's (I forget which season), Leicester misused and abused the administration system to the extent that the football league introduced the points-docking to stop anyone doing the same again. They've got 20 years of playing financial tricks to spend more of other people's money for an edge in the football pyramid.

That's not say it wasn't great to see them win it, it was far more entertaining than the usual suspects getting it, and Spurs failing spectacularly is always funny, but they're not a "complete underdog" success story.

Annoyingly they milked the administration system and Wrexham were the first team punished by points deduction.

My biggest gripe with City is that they beat us 1-0 in our only defeat during the 04-05 season with Anelka scoring from the spot. Could've been invincible but it just wasn't to be. It's made all the more annoying by the fact that Anelka then missed a penalty for us against United in the Champions League Final in 08. Football.

The idea behind FFP was not terrible imo, but it's just proved to be highly impractical to introduce or make work.

American sports manage it with salary caps and drafts. The thing is it was never about stopping clubs getting into too much debt it was about creating a cartel of clubs at the top which was impossible to break into.

Any views on boycotting Qatar world cup? Looks like Norway are talking about it. I would fully support wales boycotting if they were to qualify. The reality is that it would take one of the big boys to boycott to have any impact.

My guess is nobody will boycott, but would be interesting to see if any individual players do.

It’s easy to talk about boycotting when you’re not even likely to qualify.
