I've always said that when the death rate is consistently below 50, i.e. no worse than a bad flu year, the brakes will come off for until we go back above...

I've had this worry that this will be just as flimsy as the "quarantine" measures, and not actually be enforced properly. The government seems to hate the idea of actually telling people they have to do things, and of course especially if that something stops them going to work. we have the numbers and theoretical capability, but I just don't see it happening without "civil liberties" being compromised which seems to not be acceptable even to stop an infectious virus....

Problem is that there isnt a consensus anymore in the west to keep a lockdown in place. The left will blame the VE parties and Cummings, the right will blame the BLM marches. its just about how we ease it now.

She’s handling the crises extremely well, she’s been brilliant. She comes across as a nice person in press conferences and genuinely well likeable. It’s refreshing.

VE Day was a month ago, so it clearly had no impact on infections as they’ve consistently declined ever since. It would be a stretch for anyone to blame them for something that never happened.

Yes, she does actually appear to be a genuine person. Rose Mattafeo (Kiwi komedian) said she was amazed that when she won the Edinburgh comedy award, Ardern contacted her to congratulate her. She knows her because Ardern goes to a lot of live  comedy.

Nish Kumar said on the live Bugle the other day that she went to see his show when he was in NZ too (it was a joke about her experience in handling massive disasters).

I didn’t realise she didn’t have a majority, with an election there later this year you’d think she would be in a good position to win one. Whilst there are circumstances that favour NZ compared to other countries they have managed the virus extremely well either way.

Just asked the wife and she can't remember the last time someone had a majority governments there. My father-in-law told me he thinks it's quite a good 'system' as it keeps everyone in check.

The election when Ardern got in was pretty amusing for a leftie. National (conservatives) got the biggest share of the vote and everyone assumed they would continue their coalition with the Greens. After a few days, the Greens surprised everyone and said 'we're going to go with Labour'. Just when I thought the furious male gammony types who kept popping up on my social media couldn't get any more angry, Ardern said 'I'm having a baby, so I'll be taking a few weeks off soon'.

He used his island as a downpayment/security for a government loan.

I’m not up to date on his tax paying status however.

It’s not about that, it’s about commenting on the governments handling of this crises. Which many people on here and out in the country have found to be wanting. You haven’t offered any discussion of your own and are just downvoting nearly all my posts which is pretty unfair.

I’m sorry if that happened but I hardly ever see you in this thread, the only actions you take in here is to downvote my posts and only mine. Equally if it’s constant then why are you just downvoting mine?

 

Support the government all you want but you’ll have to accept that there are some that will see differently and express that. You can’t go around policing threads because of that.
