I wonder if this is the type of decision that we’ll look back on in years to come as the decision that started the end of this government?

I must admit we’ve got our plans set and even if there was a change to the rules it’s very unlikely we would change them.

We won’t be hugging each other and although my parents and brother will be with us it’ll all be fairly low key. We will be letting them hold / play with our daughter however.

This Christmas is more precious than most for us as a family with my wife and me having a daughter back in January having lost a child in early pregnancy the year before and my Mum losing her Dad in March (not COVID related)

I certainly think people should stop and think before posting any inflammatory or negative comments about different people’s choices on how to spend this Christmas (providing the plans don’t take the absolute piss)

Many of the choices made will be personal and may be looked upon differently by someone else but let’s not bitch about it.

You mean a decision they are taking to allow their own restrictions to be relaxed, which in-turn could cause increased deaths? I think that one stands out to me.

I was wondering about this after Hancock said that the govt would be publishing daily vaccination numbers last week.

Predictably, none have appeared as, I would suspect numbers are pretty low.

Health officials were today slammed for failing to reveal exactly how many Brits have been vaccinated against Covid, despite promising to publish regular updates about the mammoth operation. 

Government bosses have repeatedly insisted the figures on coronavirus jab uptake — which Public Health England releases each week for flu in a surveillance report — will be released in the coming days. 

But Department of Health chiefs have so far yet to commit to publishing any figures, even though the UK's biggest-ever vaccination drive kicked off last Tuesday.

Dr Kit Yates, a mathematician at Bath University, claimed the failure to be transparent with the figures felt 'like a massive own goal'. 

He tweeted: 'It is clearly important to know how many people have been vaccinated from a public grant stand point. Why wouldn't the Government want to publicise these good news figures on a dashboard?' 

Officials were concerned about Covid vaccine uptake due to a wave of anti-vaxx conspiracy theories being peddled on social media. A number of major surveys pre-roll out suggested up to one in five Britons would refuse to take it. 

Politico reported today that Matt Hancock is facing pressure from other ministers to publish daily vaccination figures, in the same fashion as No10 does for cases, deaths, tests and hospital admissions. 

The news website claimed that health chiefs were only able to give a 'ballpark' figure of 'tens of thousands so far', which Dr Yates branded 'not a good enough estimate'. 

Health chiefs last week said that all 50 hospitals in England which received the initial batches of the vaccines were expected to give out at least 975 doses in the first week.

That would suggest at least 48,750 shots would be dished out in the first week of the operation, which Mr Hancock described as 'the largest-scale vaccination campaign in our country's history'. 

Labour last week piled pressure on ministers to publish regular data on the Covid-19 vaccination scheme.

But Department of Health chiefs were unable to confirm exactly how many Brits had been vaccinated when asked last week.

The Government agency — headed by Mr Hancock — yesterday told MailOnline it was 'still expecting to publish regular numbers'. And officials have yet to respond to this website's request today for further information."

That allows some people to see family members they are desperate to see ... and yes we are in a pandemic but people have been making personal assessments all the way through .... despite lad bible .... I think the majority will be very cautious ...

Yes I know it allows family members to see each other but my point is IF it goes wrong it could be something we look back at as the beginning of the end for this government. Every government has one, this could be this ones.

I doubt it - 500 deaths a day is barely registering. Most will see it as boris "giving" them a Christmas after a tough year. A couple of hundred extra per day for a while won't be enough to turn them against the government. People seem to see January lockdown as inevitable and fine.

For comparison, in the worst 7 month period of the WWII blitz there was over 40,000 civilian deaths. The last 7 months of this year has cost more lives.

Plus in the US, the COVID-19 pandemic has seen daily death totals that have surpassed those of events memorialized as national tragedies, including Pearl Harbor and 9/11.

As has been pointed out these are additional deaths.

For a more modern comparison and one that is very relevant to Liverpool fans like yourself. The current death rate is the equivalent of 5 Hillsborough tragedies every day. 
 

When you see it in real terms you get an idea of how bad things actually are.
