Todays numbers ... 😞

During the holiday period, the COVID-19 Dashboard will be updated every day, but the amount of data being updated will vary

36,511 cases reported in England alone. Jeez.

FFS they need to get a grip of this ... where's Boris ? lock us all down now seriously

Tier review is in 2 days so I can just see them putting everywhere into tier 4 then, that way they can lower down cases whilst not calling it a lockdown thus keeping their 'no more lockdowns' promise

This is just a speculative piece. No decent sources quoted.

Remember all the winter blizzards the Express said we were going to have over the years!? 😂

yeah, definitely....some are calling it K shaped recovery...where some do very well, and some the opposite.

The Tories will be quietly delighted with that. Some societal deadwood killed off, the poor take a hammering, they get to perform some experiments in population control, and a huge distraction from Brexit. What a year.

I'm very much against closing schools partly because I have a daughter with pretty bad anxiety going nuts over GCSEs this summer, but also because some kids miss out more than others so just increases inequality and this is going to lead to lifelong disadvantage that can't be fixed as easily as other parts of the economy by just chucking money at it....but unfortunately they may have to be closed with the increasing cases everywhere, especially if spreading more in children...

From an outside perspective of not having kids I think a more pragmatic approach is needed than "kids carry on as normal". It could even be as simple as leaving it up to the parents, to protect those vulnerable parents with kids in schools. They are essentially dicing with death every day and it doesnt sound like there's any provision at all apart from "do it or be fined".

I get that masks all day aren't effective so we might just have to accept virus spread with maybe that one adjustment I just mentioned.

Everton v Man City off due to covid

Not important I know but was really looking forward to watching that! I do think we aren't far off an enforced break for football though...

looks like it .... quite a few matches going now .....  I would be surprised if they continue if we do get a tier 5 anyway ...

So so busy around here today. Just went for a walk for a couple of hours and probably saw 10 times as many people as I normally would. (and some seriously large groups) Roads are busy, car parks are all full, and any other possible parking space has a car in it. The village was almost like summer with queues outside most shops and cafes (most of the businesses were still being really good on distancing inside though from what I could see). Like I say, almost but not quite as busy as summer. I'd say probably busier than October half term though.  Bit fo a shock to the system, made me realise just how quiet it's been

Apologies, I've forgotten the user name of the person who works in a hotel in Cornwall, what's it like down there?

That will be me! Its been very quiet down here since most areas went up to tier 3 and 4. Most of our guests are from the London area and we havent been allowing anyone from tier 4 to stay. Cornwall is now in tier 2, and as a result the bar and restaurant where I work is only opening Friday to Saturday from this week, which is going to be local trade mainly I expect. I went over to the North Coast this morning for a walk on fistral beach with the dog, and its unbelievably quiet.

Yesterday the press were trumpeting AstraZeneca vaccine approval Monday and back to normal by February; 24hrs later they're reporting hospitals overrun, prophesizing Tier 5 lockdown and "it will be with us until next summer"

What a difference a day makes

Do anything to sell newspapers!

So the shit show continues, numbers are continuing to rise as are the concerns of the nation, is it too much to ask for at least an update statement from our illustrious leaders? I'm not asking for a tv brief, just a brief - too much to ask?

Parents are sat at home wondering if their kids can go to school next week or not, they need to know now not in a few days time.

I despair with our government, in today's society where communication is now so so easy, why it it that they continue to struggle?

Anyway, on a positive note, I've changed my smoke alarms batteries, an annual end of year evolution, mind you the dog didn't go a bundle on testing 😄

And yet they accuse the likes of Whitty and Valance of being doom mongers

It had been really quiet here up until today. Still quite a few big hotels open, but judging from their car parks they don't seem overly busy. If I had to guess I'd say most of the people around today were day trippers

Before we closed we were trying to stop people from tiers 3 and 4 but some of them were trying so hard to get around it

Lake District. Yep, tier 2 although wouldn't be surprised if that changed at the next review. The numbers around here aren't great but aren't horrific. They are further north in Cumbria though

Our numbers have been going up quite quickly the last week or so. Over 200 new cases today down here.
