The point Starmer made about it being PMQs and not Opposition Questions was brilliant. Starmer hammered Johnson today, Johnson had nothing and the joking when confronted with such a serious issue won’t go down well.

I think as his own approval ratings slide this will only add to that. He was really shown up here and the point made about his body language is really good. He comes across afraid to confront Starmer on his own.

Also now the Mail will be saying Labour are the ones stopping schools going back, and therefore kids getting their meals etc. This will work on the approval ratings, then pubs will open then Brexit will get "done" and all will be good in Tory world

Not so sure it will effect starmer as yet .. but he does need to make the position of labour clearer and a response today to definitively shut Boris up would have worked well along with his response

Johnson had one line that he kept going back to - no matter what the question: ‘Will the leader of the opposition say schools are safe to go back to?’

Starmer didn’t answer despite it being asked numerous times. Other than that, Starmer was in fine form and Johnson was floundering.

It wouldn't have shut Johnson up; he was trying to lead Starmer on, but Starmer was having none of it.  Like he said, it's not Opposition Questions.

surely a policy of some description would ... I understand the difficulties with unions etc .... and the bit about opposition questions ... im just trying to think how it might come  over to people .... This opposition doesnt seem to have a policy but are still prepared to attack anyway ..... I did think Starmer was strong though as I previously said

A bit late but just seen this morning's front pages...absolutely shockingly irresponsible reporting from the Daily Mail "50P A DAY PILL TO CONQUER COVID"....then in the non-caps sub-headline mentions "cuts deaths by a third". They know so many will just see that main headline and feel safer to take more risks, which that rag has been after for weeks. 

Compare to the Times "thousands to receive life saving drug" that doesn't even mention COVID and is not in caps, even the Express is a bit more understated but still bordering on irresponsible "£5 COVID WONDER DRUG SAVES LIVES". Metro "£5 COVID DRUG CUTS DEATHS"

He/Labour don't really need to.  It'll only be to the Tories' advantage anyway. The Tories are in power, these are their problems and if they can't live up to their promises then that suits Starmer just fine.

That’s the benefit of being in Opposition, you don’t need a policy on the matter. It’s not an election campaign so they can be vague and flip floppy. It’s one of the few things they can do. This hasn’t been impacting Starmers ratings so far, I think have more to be worried about than his views as in what the Government will actually do.

School might be safe atm with very little children in attendance and have proved not to impact other countries, but surely Boris asking Keir Starmer to announce if schools are safe is irrelevant, that's not the oppositions job and is a lose lose, if schools end up adding to infection rate or not. Keir was smart not to answer, I wish boris would answer his questions though.

I get that they don't have to do it as they are not in power but I do kind of agree with you.  It's easy to bash the opposition while not bringing anything else to the table yourself, its not something I find particularly impressive.
