They should end the season here as well. Of course money talks so probably won’t.

Whats happening in August to prevent next season experiencing the same issues preventing completion of this one.

Well if the belief is this is going to be around many years and lockdowns are only to protect the health service from spikes then we could be in a position in August where deaths are at a rate similar to seasonal flu.

That's not to say a second spike may start at some point during next season such as November and a second lockdown is required. Who knows, we may tolerate a smaller spike.

Telegraph seems to think a 2 - 3 week extension to the lockdown on the next review which would take us upto June before a phased lifting. That seems to suggest June for the football is too soon and mid-May training would be totally out of the question.

I think it’s beginning to look ever increasingly likely that the English football seasons will be cancelled - and it’s just a case of deciding what they do with league winners/promotions/relegations - of which there will be no ‘correct’ outcome that is fair to all teams.

There are a few articles kicking around suggesting Champions league qualification could be based on "domestic rankings" from 2024. I don't agree with it but if its going the way the big clubs get in automatically then they may as well bring that forward.

The suggestions then to give Liverpool the league have no relegation, promoting west brom and leeds and drop one of the cups for prem teams seem the fairest (having 5 down the following year)

Yeah quite like that idea - could be incorporated for all divisions as well, with ‘x’ number of teams in each league for the next season, with the number of available promotion and relegation places depending on the situation. Could even scrap the League cup and FA cup for a season too to help.

This is wild.

How many clubs would that help versus hurt?

Good point - forgot that a lot of teams benefit from the cup runs from revenue/TV rights etc. Guess it could just be a case of weekend/midweek games every week throughout the seasons to fit them all in. There is going to be levels of give and take whatever outcome.

There's inevitably going to be a lot of hurt to a lot of clubs but I'd suspect that for most clubs guaranteeing the leagues are played will be a bigger/more secure revenue stream than a cup run.

Having said that I know sod all about club finances outside the top flight so could be way off the mark.

In relation to the cups...  they probably wouldn't have to scrap them. If the top level clubs think it's too much they'll do a Klopp and play the kids with the hope of going out. Of course it didn't work quite as well as he'd have liked as they won with the kids twice but still

Pundits all coming out with "Bruce should be give the chance"

Nobody should think that the worst win percentage manager (over 300 games) in PL history should be allowed to stay on if Newcastle become the richest club in the world. Even seeing some Newcastle fans say this, madness!

Sack him immediately when this takeover is announced, get someone decent in and start as we mean to go on. He wasn't the right choice 8 months ago, no other prem club would have hired him.

He never mentions that the council had adequate powers to cancel the Liverpool vs Madrid match. They didn't need permission from the government. Admittedly i'm sure its a more obvious decision in alot of supporters eyes after Liverpool lost and why the season absolutely has to finish for the opposite reason.
