Football 19/20

So Spain has the 2nd largest outbreak of coronavirus in Europe, Madrid itself has nearly double the cases of the UK. So to allow thousands of Madrid fans to watch football in Liverpool,  seems to be extremely shortsighted. Do they not know how it spreads, bog spike in the next 7 days.

I'd probably have thousands of people trying to project abuse at the referee on the pitch with spittle going everywhere when a decision goes against them in my top 3.

Oh its crap yeah but seems it'll be the way for a few months now. Theyll have to make a call on the Euros in the next couple of weeks.

Likely you would think. Clubs want the Euros cancelled to finish the leagues.

Scotland v Israel play off semi is sold out but looking unlikely to go ahead.

The all powerful clubs will probably push to postpone/bin the euros and if the play off games don’t happen in a couple of weeks that could swing it.

Put the season on hold for a month and play into the summer ?

Decent article about what will happen with the rest of the season, obviously no concrete answers but it's concise and they've done their homework. I dunno if you can still read a certain amount of these articles for free or not

LFCs season went tits up fairly quickly. From invincibles to 4 losses in 6 games. Out of two cups in a week. Squad not quite there yet for sustained challenges on all fronts. Bit of work for Klopp to do in the summer.

Theyve not won the league in 30 years.

Oh sure and you would've taken that at the start of the season. But thats been in the bag since before Christmas. There was a treble on though.

Its fine margins. Need to pad the squad out. 3 mistakes from that keeper in two important cup games for example.

I'm wondering how this year's flat spot aligns with last year's flat spot...?

But anyway, if the CL gets cancelled they still get to be champions for another year. Might happen. :P

even before his latest games he had the biggest error rate for leading to goals of all goalies - which was good going for someone who hadn't played all the games. ;)

Would make sense to just cancel the Euros now, and let club teams from around Europe finish their seasons in that same period (assuming we are over the worst by June/July).

Won't happen as that's how UEFA get a tonne of their funding.

Oh didn't know that. Yeah was all over the shop for all 3 goals last night. His positioning is dreadful for a keeper at that level. One to be shipped out this summer.

True - although I can’t see any other realistic solution.

Assuming league seasons now get scrapped (which is looking ever more likely by the day) do we all this the current ‘as is’ standings should be applied for Champions/promotions/relegations etc. Or should the seasons just be voided and started again next season? Or play off systems?

i reckon they'll go with current placings, because using last year's placings for CL entry (for example) would be daft.

Yeah would make sense - particularly for run away league leaders e.g. Liverpool. Not sure how it would work for relegations mind, as it would be incredibly tough to relegate Bournemouth and Villa (with a game in hand) on current standings with 9 games still to go and any number of teams who could still go down.

Then there are the incredibly tight leagues in particularly La Liga and Serie A - not sure Madrid and Lazio/Inter would be too happy. But guess that would be a case of ‘tough’.

What most makes sense to me is carrying it on into next season, and having next season as a much reduced duration, half the games or something.

Drop carabao and FA cup games, that frees up about 10 dates.

To call a season off as finished with almost 25% of fixtures outstanding is ridiculous

I don't disagree, but to put last seasons top 4 into next season's CL would also be ridiculous, as would be a relegation-threatened team using the summer to buy themselves out of trouble, etc, etc, etc.

Whatever they decide to do will have some people screaming it's unfair.

    • I guess we'll just have to wait until videos of the shows go up, but the fact that the standing is also greyed out still suggests to me that those sections just sold out out before the others and a blue block just be like 3 tickets left, it's still not concrete proof they never went on sale and if they were never on sale why would they not make it even, if 414 wasn't on sale then you'd think 409 wouldn't be either
    • Selfish, but I've done the 2 days I'm there.. i'll try to do the rest through the day but might get beaten to it as it's editable....    https://clashfinder.com/s/ape2026/
    • I don’t think the festival automatically ‘need’ to have a female headliner if you have strong female headliners on the Other Stage (which I reckon will be Rosalia and Phoebe Bridgers), perhaps a female legend (praying for Annie, will take Cher), and a few female/mix gendered subs on the Pyramid (maybe London Grammar, The xx). From what I’ve seen of Sabrina, her team prioritises the pay day and I think she will be doing Wembley over Glasto weekend.   One thing I’ve noticed is a lot of the suggestions would be first time headliners and I can’t work out when the last time was that the festival had three artists top the bill that hadn’t topped it before? It seems to be something they like to do to make sure they have a ‘safe’ headliner that will land well with the masses. Plenty of names in that hat that could step back up next summer and should/could be about: Billie Eilish, Adele, Foo Fighters, The Cure, Radiohead, U2…hell, if Beyoncé is really planning to release a ‘rock n roll’ album to complete her Renaissance trilogy, Glastonbury would be a great place to ‘kick off’ that campaign for her.   And there’s always the Rihanna rumour. Her husband (I think) said this week she’s in the studio.
    • And all (or all but one) of the secret sets repeats though?
