Why do you think they're organised? We've seen one person able to assemble a bomb in how many years? The rest has been seriously amateur hour stuff. I'd bet if you sat down for an hour to think about it you could come up with a better plan.

And 3000+ people being monitored is everyone who's been flagged in any way so all the people travelling to and fro from those countries, all the preachers, anyone who's sounded angry, everyone who's made a poor taste joke etc - it's really not very impressive out of population of 65million to have 0.0046% concerning.

They want to be proven right, what you're suggesting proves them right and means loads of those people who are hearing IS's message and thinking "No wait, that's not how I experience life here" instead think "No wait..... IS are spot on, they've got it right."

Now's the time to be strong and say no - you will not win.

Also, seems a lot higher than 10 in 5 years according to this. I don't know how they can get their facts so different but hey hum.

The reason I think they're organised is cos the bloke from MI6 has spoken about how organised they are. I forgot his name so had to google him. Alex Younger. The forces, police and military and spy agencies have all said there are some highly organised groups/networks out there. Plus your maths is a little bit misrepresentative. Surely it's 3,000 jihadis from the Muslim community, and I'm not trying to be fussy, but you're not going to get a Christian or Jewish jihadi, because that's the meaning of the word 'jihadi'... And pretty sure IS wants their mates in the country. I'm not saying I am FOR deportation of EVERYONE they know, but if they're a known threat to the safety of the UK, something more has to be done imo

You say you're not looking for an argument but are posting ambiguous, potentially provocative statements (which may not be but its hard to tell because of the ambiguity!)

Where's the ambiguity? I thought it was pretty clear to be honest, haha. What's provocative by putting something in to perspective?

Let's not start arguing old sons

The only good thing is that there are 3 less nutters in the world.... Sadly at the price of 7

Don't worry, old son ;) I was just bringing into their awareness that they were saying they didn't want to do something while at the same time seemingly doing it.

I wouldn't  trust the spin a politician chooses to put on the numbers, it's to their benefit to play up to people's fears and we know the Tories are happy to do that. I can't find Younger saying that. If they are so organised why is what we see so incredibly amateur? If your fears were correct we'd see much more in the way of coordinated action - we've seen precisely the opposite.

You'll note I didn't use the word jihadi, that was just you. If you imagine this one religion is the source of all bad things I can assure you that you're wrong. The christian/jewish nutters generally don't get their religion mentioned at all, apparently that's not cool.

Known proper threats ARE arrested and investigated. Those just under suspicion - i.e. we're not sure if they're a threat or not - are the people on these watch lists and that's quite different

1. they already do run the ticket holders database through the police checks, they haul folk away as they arrive via numberplate recognition if possible but they've also swept down on people at the gates

I've not heard of this.

I don't foresee Glastonbury festival becoming a target however a would be attacker doesn't need a ticket just copy what others have done using a vehicle through any of the vehicle gates to the festival.

There are several checkpoints before you reach a vehicle gate to the main site where alarms would be raised if you didn't stop and display your vehicle pass.

Also, I'm not certain but in the previous thread on this someone mentioned that all festival owned on site vehicles have remote kill switches too.

The biggest danger at the moment seems to be a van/truck driving at speed into a crowd. However anyone whose ever driven to Glastonbury will know anything more that 5mph is impossible as you approach the site at peak times.

The vehicle entry points may be upgraded but still the biggest risk would be away from the site.

Not for the hundreds of ticketless sods who sneak in to the festival in work vans every year.

Pretty much every vehicle gets searched from the Saturday before gates open. Bodies have to be pretty well hidden to get through.

Quite often if it is a big vehicle with lots of places to hide,  the security searcher shouts out   'Ok, the game's up. Out you come'   :)

"Extra security" is an interesting concept when 19,000 police have been slashed in the past 7 years, with another 16,000 more to go by 2022 (according to some reports), in addition to all the cuts to the armed forces and intelligence agencies. All on May's watch as Home Sec, now PM. This interview with a former senior investigating office for the Met in Borough Market this morning was enlightening. He's outright called May and her government liars regarding "extra officers on the streets".

The right wing paper press will just applaud her grandeous proclamations and ignore this, and the BBC won't have the balls to push it. Public will probably buy her line because she sounds 'hard', rather than say 'hang on a minute, weren't you in charge all these years?'

Ha well the half dozen scousers I met last year all got in hidden in vans carrying solar panels so it wasn't that well checked! Either that or they know the '...out you come' ruse

A way to find Isis terrorists is to put shit loads of goats on the streets , that way anybody shagging em will be a Isis terrorist , and will be caught

Assuming there are extra security measures this year, are we anticipating that the queue will take far longer to get in taking into account more bag searches etc?

Not that I mind waiting if it makes us all safer, just that I will need to remember to bring more cider on the first trip while I wait.

Got a gig tonight in Bristol, Thee Oh Sees, then Eddie Vedder in London on Tuesday then off to download Thursday morning so will be interesting to see what extra security & checks are in place. Will give an idea what Glasto may be like.

Tbh I think the biggest danger at the Festival would be a crowd surge in the event of a false panic.  News today of 1500 people injured in Milan at the Juventus game screening when someone lit a firecracker proves the point.

Mrs P and I have already talked about where we will stand on fields, where the safest area is ie. near to the speaker stacks on the Pyramid that could be a useful safe refuge in a surge, and where we will meet in the event of an incident etc.

It's not going to change my Festival, but a little thought beforehand could make all the difference in such an event.

I dunno, sounds like it already has.

With regards to bag checks, I'm expecting delays, but drugs will be easier to get in, since there will be more of a focus on weapons.

I generally plan for crowd surges anyway after getting crushed against a barrier at a festival when I was younger. I plan on having the same incredible time at glasto as I always do. I'll be bringing more glitter and booze this year to cheer anyone up around us who's looking like they need a make over or a beer

Since I'm half Egyptian I know I'll get stopped and searched, so if you're trying to smuggle in drugs feel free to walk next to me and so avoid detection while theyre distracted!
