Someone mentioned pinch points, Other/Pyramid/Silver Hayes was particularly horrendous this year, anyone know what happened to the supposed extra gap in Silver Hayes (as shown on the map)?  Why was this not open?

It was open, it was full of paper lanterns.

After the double whammy of misery with 2005 and 2007 my wife and I took a couple of years off, then fell back in love with it all over again. However I do think that this year may have been my last, at least for a few years. I can cope with the mud and rain when we are there but the trek to and from the far side of the pink carpark to Pennards nearly killed me. It was bad enough doing it 3 times on Wednesday and Thursday (twice with our gear, then once more to help a friend out) but the Monday morning slog back nearly killed me. I'm 45 this year and it gets harder every year, especially as the older you get the more stuff you seem to need to take. I guess the obvious answer is a campervan but we already spend a fortune on Glastonbury and I'm not sure I can justify spending even more money which at the end of the day could get us a nice holiday instead.

Mind you I've said "never again" at least 3 times so let's see what happens. We've got a 7 year old who goes with us to loads of other festivals but has never been to Glaso but I'm sure at some point she will come with us when she's a little older, but for now at least I feel it's time for a break.

Right now, I'm not sure. I had a great time, as I always do, but this year was hard work. It always seems to be the case that the weather messes it up and shrinks and limits the festival for us, and this year was the worst for that I can remember. All this wonderful stuff, no way of physically getting there to see it. I will always love the place, but it might be that I've scratched the itch now.

Retracting all of this. I'd go back tomorrow if I could, and it can rain as hard as it likes.

Definitely back next year. Mud did make it a very difficult experience and there is a lot about the festival that isn't perfect, and some things which really are poor

But still have 5 days of wonderful experiences and interactions with beautiful people. With the outside world seemingly turning into a hateful place I need Glastonbury more than ever

Ah ok, cheers for that, I thought I saw it in operation Thurs evening, but I'm sure after that each time I walked through Silver Hayes, it appeared to have been blocked off.  Certainly the Other to Silver Hayes entrance seemed just as rammed as it had been in previous years.

Definitely.

mud isn't going to put me off coming back. Way I see it is nothing short of driving rain is going to make parts of the site worse than it has been this year. I already can't wait for next year and will definitely get a ticket if possible. One of my party (gf's dad who is our driver) has arthritis and at the moment says he won't come next year so we will see but I am sure he will come round. Me and the gf are going to take driving lessons this year and get sorted anyway so it's all good.

We will be back, although we did have some moments of wondering what we were doing for the first time ever.....

I can sympathise with the "edgy" feeling.....we had a couple of odd moments.

My better half was leaving the pyramid after Madness going with the flow when a group of girls started trying to barge their way through, telling people to get out of the fucking way.

When she turned round and told them to go with the flow like everyone else, they told her to fuck off, that she was too fucking old to be there, and then kicked her , quite deliberately and hard in the shin.

I think I might of seen the same people. If it was the same people to be fair one of their group had fainted right in front of us and the girl completely freaked out. She didn't seem to be dealing with the situation very well but before the guy fainted they seemed fine. No need to kick anyone though.

Will be back but I'm done with back breaking camping. Reckon we are renting out a campervan next year. Are the campervan parks far away? Electricity points?

No electricity points - the vans run off a 12 volt battery which, with careful use, will last during the festival. We hire a caravan which is put on site for us already set up with water and gas so we just drive in and park right next to it. Perfect!

How does that work then Janie? Do you do that with a private company?

Yes, there are a few companies who do it - Blackmoor Vale and A & D Caravans, for example... http://www.bmvleisure.co.uk/caravan-event-hire/

Book it the moment you get the October tickets though - they go very quickly after that. We just carry over our deposit every year so we're guaranteed the van we usually have.

I think we're done for a few years. The buzz just doesn't outweigh the downs any more.  The weather was atrocious, worst for me since 2007 (we missed 2008 and 2009).  And the organisation of the crowds in the pinch points (SE corner, Arcadia, Pyramid / Other track) is non-existent.

More than that it's just not for us any more.  It's too big.  I don't actually need the variety any more.  I don't need late night entertainment - I don't have the stamina.  I don't need the clashes.  Definitely going to look for something smaller.

We've got a lot of other holidays planned over the next two years as well and it just feels like something we do out of habit.  Time to hand over to others methinks.  I don't feel like we'll never be back just not for 5-10 years.

Sounds like you need to try Latitude, we went for the first time last year and fell in love with the place, going again this year

Latitude is fantastic in every way :D

It really is buddy, we did both Glasto and Latitude last year, took the kiddies to Latitude, so much for them to do, amazing comedy lineup, great family camping facilities, perfect size and really chilled friendly crowd. We've paid for some home improvements this year so could only do the one festival, either Glasto on our own or Latitude as a family and picked Latitude, It was hard not going but I think we've made the right choice, my wife has hip displacement from having the two little ones, I think the mud would have crucified her.

Def trying for Glasto tickets in October though, cant miss 2 years.

I know this is a Glasto Forum so won't bang on but echo everything you say above.

I'm only 24 so like a late night and a few drinks but the camp sites are pretty quiet by around 1am so you can get a good night sleep it's great! You feel completely safe all weekend, don't generally see your completely hammered people stumbling around, it's a lovely place to spend a weekend.

Also (touchwood) they tend to get great weather.

I thought Block 9 was good this year, esp Genosys, the sound was really really good

I think with Block 9 my problem is just that NYC Downlow also has a huge queue and the London Underground is hotter than the sun. Both good venues but there's other, more convenient ones. Genosys is great and the design of the whole are is terrific, I just wonder if they shouldn't think about shaking it up a bit to keep it interesting.

They definitely need to come up with something new for Shangri La though. Exactly the same layout as the last two years, but seemingly with even fewer and less distinctive micro-venues.

So long as I am able to get to get a ticket I will absolutely be going back. I suspect demand for tickets next year will drop slightly but it will still sell out almost straight away.
