this is an unofficial tribute right? How do they know it wont clash with the showing of the 2000 set I wonder.

They have just said it'll be some time after 6pm so presumably they're waiting to find out more details about the showing of the 2000 set before they decide exactly what they're doing.

Wristbands? This sounds  less and less fun.

Awwww, come on S2H - live and let live.

It's the antithesis of what I would want to do at the time, but it's harmless and many will enjoy it, I'm sure. From looking at twitter, the wristbands are merely a souvenir of the event, with 300 to give to those gathering for a sing song.

I'm more worried about having to endure a Bowie and/or Prince cover at almost every set over the weekend. I have huge respect for both artists whilst being a particular fan of neither. But I almost invariably detest cover versions of songs and hope that we are not bombarded...

Just read through this thread for the first time.  I'm now equal measures of sick with nerves/boiling with rage at the prospect of some bullshit covers and appalling tributes that will be on offer.

That Coldplay version of Heroes.  There are no words.

This "showing of the 2000 set"..

Has this actually been confirmed anywhere? As far as I can tell, it's just a (good) idea that people have jumped on to the extent that it's now being talked about as though it's definitely happening. The only confirmation I've seen from the Festival (I think Emily) is that they're planning on paying tribute in some way, but I don't think any details were given unless I've missed something (entirely possible).

You've missed something.

What a perfect way for the festival to start.. Bowie's Pyramid set from 2000. I hope the organisers can make this happen. I can imagine it'll attract a few thousand really. Not too sure how it'd work putting it on the pyramid screens. What could prevent this from happening? Say if thousands turn up they'd have to be playing it pretty loud. Is there any licensing issues which could hold it up? It would be miles better if they show the full set rather than "some"  like Emily has suggested.

Looking at some of the reaction on Twitter, this is sounding more and more like it will be an ironic, wacky sing along of Lionel or even Rolf proportions. Avoid.

Depends what you mean by 'this'. On the official side there's going to be some sort of showing of the 2000 set (duration and location unconfirmed). There will also be some other as yet unannounced tributes on site. I would expect something similar to Shrinal Ritchie, amongst other things, but that's just a guess.

Then there's the singalong, or Glastonbowie. This is unofficial and unconnected to anything arranged by the organisers. It does look a bit naff, but may well end up being fun for those that really get involved.

But don't forget there's the thing with DB's live band that Emily has also mentioned. Surely that will be  about 3 or 4 times better than squinting at the ropey vhs bootleg of the 2000 set that ME swapped 3kg of festival cheddar for at the 2003 Bruton Spring Fayre. Real life Bowie people playing actual Bowie songs the way he quite enjoyed hearing them being played. With some nice Bowie photo projections. That's the one I reckon.

OK, thanks for clearing up, its more the Glastonbowie think that I was referring to.

Saw Earl Slick's Station to Station tour this week, with Bernard Fowler on vocals. Excellent show - would love something like that at Glastonbury. Great choice of songs, and Fowler's vocals really suited the songs - didn't try and sound like Bowie, just sang them in his own style. Interestingly he commented that they were the most vocally challenging songs he'd every sung - guess that proves why most Bowie covers are awful (here's looking at you Chris Martin....)

I really wanted to make it to one of these shows. I'm jealous! Yeah, here's hoping a Bowie tribute at Glastonbury will be something similar.
