This thread demonstrates another reason that secret sets are a problem though. This thread is full of people that convinced themselves Radiohead were playing and are variously gutted, shocked, distraught and so on that its not happening. And this is three weeks out from the festival.

Now imagine that Adele sub spot had been kept as Special Guests again. Imagine how these people then react when the Tame Impala banner gets unfurled.

That source never said where they'd be playing, only that they'd be playing. I'm pretty sure his own source is the band themselves or someone exceedingly close to them, tho I can't be sure about that because he's never said (tho there is something called google, which has been able to tell me some useful things).

We did have a convo where I took something of what he said as perhaps hinting at the slot before Adele, but I always knew that could be reading something that wasn't really there, and I said as much in other posts. Other stuff came along which seems to suggest that too - but only ever suggestions, never a definite "they will be in that slot".

I'm of course going to go back to him and ask him what his thoughts about it are now, and see what he says. Whether or not he'll have new info I don't know, but there's little point in me speculating what he might say or what might perhaps have gone on to change plans.

But I remain convinced that his info was accurate in some manner (perhaps even confusion, and what he heard was about next year rather than this year) at some point in time even if it's no longer accurate. There's too much I know that I'm not saying to make me think it was always completely wrong.

I'll just point out that I've always regarded them as a maybe without further info. I'd have put them as a TBC if I was absolutely sure they were playing.

But yes, it's still entirely possible they might play somewhere. The possibility that it would be a secret set of some kind has always been there, and Thom is cosy with the naughty corner lot where it would be likely to happen if it's going to happen (as that's about the only realistic place for a secret set nowadays).

I don't know either way, but I have enough belief in my original source to not dismiss the possibility.

Haha - yes, I believe you laid your cards out fairly and didn't over-claim anything - then the rest of us numpties went where we wanted to go.  I think if there's not a definite 'Radiohead this place at this time' actual slot then I'm happier with the news they're definitely not playing, unless I'm lucky enough to stumble across them.

This topic saddens me. I hope they don't do a secret show because if they do it'll be so packed you won't be able to get near it and also it'll just make me think 'WHY NOT JUST BOOK THEM PROPERLY AS HEADLINERS YOU DAFT COW!"

Nowt to do with the suitability of the music. Its just not happening on a small stage in a tiny area surely? Within 10 seconds it would be on social media and 30,000 people would be trampling through campsites and causing a big mosh at the entrance to the SE corner to see them. 

Literally not a hope Glasto HQ would book them there. Unless Glasto fancies causing injuries to people. 

Their Park gig in 2011 was the last secret gig of a band that size on a small stage. The campsites got wrecked. Then there was a big panic to get back down for U2, people pissing in the hedges etc.

I agree with you completely there. Unless they were on at 4am or something daft, when the majority of the site is asleep.

Yeah interesting point. How many that are also attending NOS and Glastonbury will see bands at both?

Of the bands going to both, I really want to see Foals, Band of Horses, Tame Impala, M83, Courtney, FJM, Jagwar Ma and maybe John Grant and Grimes (also Wolf Alice but seeing them later in the year) but reckon I'll only see them all once.

At the moment I'm treating NOS as my main music festival and Glastonbury as my everything else festival (just stumble on to things without planning) but as we don't know what the clashes are like for NOS yet I may try to see some of the bands at Glastonbury.

I might as well wrap up my contribution here with how things stand.

I've had a chat with matey, and I simply don't know one way or another about how things might stand or what might have gone on. The info was probably good at one time, but whether it still is I can't say either way.

I'm still inclined to think it's more likely than not.

Well that's why the naughty corner would work as it already has stringent access controls of an evening. It's the one place on site where that's already in place.

Looking at what Neil's said, I'm leaning towards the idea that Glastonbury had/still has a hold on them for that weekend - eg. you pay them 10-20% of the headliner fee, they keep those dates free and the crew on call, if someone drops out they come in and play and get the full fee then.

Given the number of headliner drop-outs over the past few years (both post- and pre- announcement) it'd be a prudent course of action to eliminate that risk. Especially if Chris Martin is doing it for peanuts so there's spare budget for headliners.

(Or maybe they're just being held back to be dropped in somewhere should England end up playing football during the festival and they need something to keep people going off site).

They could still be hashing out a deal I guess thus taking out the planned aspect, 'please play radiohead, I'll be your best friend' 'fine we'll play at 4am but we want 5 big dogs and a free t-shirt.'

So they're going to put on one of the biggest bands in the country on one of the smallest stages in the area thats the most crushed when trying to get into?
