Bit annoying that the physical album isn't out until after the Roundhouse gigs as I still like to get CDs, especially for my favourite bands / albums.

Oh well, they will have to take my money twice.

I find it fascinating that RH have gone from being completely elusive to now releasing two pre album singles, reissuing all their albums on vinyl, releasing limited edition 7" singles, staggering the release of the digital and physical albums when no doubt a lot of fans will buy it twice and plugging their new music on Spotify and other streaming services.

What happened to the 'we hate the music industry' Radiohead?

@jparx They had issues with (their) major labels, not necessarily the industry as a whole - they have done limited releases since Parlophone including a RSD release and both In Rainbows and King of Limbs had staggered releases. I'm guessing they will have a 'special' physical edition that can be preordered alongside the digital release come Sunday, so no need to double dip unless you just want the standard CD release.

I understand all that and it's obviously well documented,  but there are a number of inconsistencies in their opinions over the years. I love the band, their music and their approach to the business, but I feel if you're going to have strong opinions on things such as streaming services, you should stand by those views. Or at least explaining why you've made a u-turn.

Oxfordshire mansions don't come cheap, and they obviously don't fancy putting on a proper tour to entertain their masses.  Re-releases are money for old rope.  Monetizing the legacy.  A 'no brainer' as our American friends might say.

I appreciate everyone's cynicism but I would absolutely lap up an In Rainbows style boxset for this album. Take my fucking money and build a duck pond Thom, I wouldn't care a jot.

You only have to look at the amount of companies Radiohead have established to know that they are verrry shrewd businessmen. This article goes into it.

I've been a bit behind on what I think to the new songs.. Daydreaming is absolutely stunning. When the strings come in at the end.. just perfect. So excited for the album on Sunday! I wonder how many songs will be on the album, hopefully more than the King of Limbs!

Christ it'd be underwhelming if it was just 8 songs. 10 at least. 12 preferable. Quadruple disk of 70 if feeling generous

Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely with you  I don't have a problem with bands milking their material. It's their right to do so and if the music is good enough I'll lap it up.

That was an interesting read. But I think this just shows how smart they are. Founding a separate company for each project is a very safe measure. I agree with the conclusion of the article; romanticising the breadless artist won't lead anywhere and with some financial security, it's easier to be creative without worrying about paying bills.

On the plus side, their views on the streaming services are largely bollocks, so if they're inconsistent then at least they're right some of the time
