billed as "headliner" or "special guest" will make little difference. there'll still be massive hype and a massive crowd for her.

Also hard to see what her motivation would be for doing that. If she's going to be playing a gig that is out of her comfort zone, the trade-off for that is all the benefits that come with huge publicity.

There may still be hype but if she wasn't announced until she walked out on stage that would still help suppress some of the hype as although a lot of people would think it highly likely to be her, it wouldnt actually be confirmed and set in stone so would still leave some to debate whether or not it was her

The motivation is she would get all the publicity after the gig, and therefore all the benefit of publicity with none of the pressure given she would have already played. Take Lionel Richie, he didnt see a huge rise in album sales until after his set, Adele would still benefit from a similar effect (assuming everyone laps up her performance which Im sure they would) with increased album sales and therefore more money in the bank. I'm sure she would prefer the financial consequences over a load of journos and people on the internet hyping her up before the show

I'm afraid this sounds rather like wishful thinking. If it is true that Adele is nervous of big crowds etc, then it's hard to see why she would be playing Glastonbury at all unless there is a pretty big up-side. Anything other than an offer of a headline performance would surely be rejected by her team out of hand for exactly this reason. The scenario you describe involves Adele chasing short term sales at perhaps the expense of doing something which would continue to cement her legacy (headlining). I can't think of a single decision Team Adele has made on her current album campaign in that vein.

Here's a question: if you get paid a headline fee, are given a headline length slot, are billed as a headliner and draw a headline size crowd, does it matter if you play last on the Pyramid stage or not?

I'm not insinuating anything, just curious on opinions. It would obviously be exceptional circumstances to warrant this. I just think after Dolly and particularly Lionel (who drew the biggest crowd of the weekend), we could be entering an era where headliners don't necessarily have to close the day. If an act plays for 90 minutes at 3pm on the Saturday live on the BBC, will they be bothered that they aren't the last act to play on that day if they are paid and billed as a headliner? Some acts may just suit playing different times. Lionel proved over crowding isn't too much of an issue.

I'd say Yellow sounds a bit like the outro to Fake Plastic Trees and Thom Yorke and Matt Bellamy had very similar Jeff Buckley influenced vocals but nowadays they're less similar.

Downvoted that? Seems reasonable to me. The bands are not similar, but at one point started in a similar musical place, at least compared to today.

It only matters if the artist thinks it does.

10-15 years ago the concept wouldn't have seemed anywhere near as alien to most people, dunno if it's ever happened on the Pyramid Stage but the headliner playing second to last has certainly been done before at other events. It didn't even used to be considered unusual.

I've just been doing a bit of digging around on matey who sent me the RH info, and have discovered that not only has he given me accurate RH info before, he's also given me accurate info on several oter bands too.

And everything I've found (which isn't everything hes told me) has been 100% spot on - which doesn't happen by guessing when some of what he's said hasn't even been for bands that were rumoured at the point he told me.

I don't suppose that includes other bands for this year?

I'd been pretty confident in what he's told me about RH for this year before I found that other stuff (which I'd forgotten he'd sent me).

So I don't reckon any straws of clutching is necessary.

So we can now consider you very confident that Radiohead are going to be there? *waits patiently for reply*

    • Yeah I did spot that AXS had more available for the O2 shows Muse are doing, though I think that comes with the territory of AXS now being the venue's primary ticket selling platform.    My instinct remains they'll probably still play to a big crowd on the night - sales were similarly slow in 2023 but videos of those gigs showed the venue looking pretty much full. Equally it probably would be sold out if the pricing was even just slightly less ridiculous. Shave up to £50 off some of these categories and I think that would've got people to go with it.
    • Some are definitely already there with that and with another round of inflation looking like it's on the way, it certainly locks that in. And I say that as someone who also isn't willing to break the £100 marker.
    • A lot of people have said this online but does the Marvel world need new cities to play with? New York seems to be a target of all the villains to the point where you wonder why anyone in that world still lives there. Much as you can accuse me of overthinking it I guess haha.    I do agree that The Void is a compellingly different villain in many respects given the superpower is trapping people in their most traumatic memories. Shame in some respects the film came out in the post-Endgame funk Marvel seems stuck in and a lot of people missed out on it.    Speaking of, I rewatched Infinity War the other day. First time I think I've seen it since seeing it in the cinema on its opening day. Holds up pretty well imo - I have issues sometimes with ensemble casts and jumping between 4/5 storylines but it felt this one got the balance right and also properly explored Thanos. So it was good.
    • I didn't think I'd ever watched a Coben adaptation or read one of the original books, though turns out I did - I watched one called The Stranger back in 2020. Clearly didn't stick long in my memory as until researching it, I didn't know that was one of his. Queens Gambit or Black Mirror, it was not.    But clearly it's popular tripe in some respect if Netflix is going yes to everything he has to offer and are apparently about to start trying his most popular individual character, as seen below:   https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2026/jul/30/how-harlan-coben-became-the-king-of-potboiler-tv   Plus hey. Sometimes people get a kick from watching something and deriding it as crap. Don't let this internet rando stop you haha
