That's the problem with having just him on stage I guess. When he leaves there's nothing to look at and nobody knows what's going on.

I think the main mistake he made was that he played truncated versions of his hits and longer versions of non-hits. If you're gonna play 30-odd songs barely anyone can make it hit after hit. Full versions would have helped though.

I still enjoyed it, but I couldn't get very near the front and enjoyed it less because of that. Which is interesting considering everybody apparently left...

i was inside the first 5 rows and it was crazy down there. everyone was loving it. i saw a few ppl look around when he pld lost in the world and hold my liquour. the lads in front of me told me before they had not listened to his last 2 / 3 albums so no surprise they looked lost.

Christ, did they not know Runaway or Black Skinhead either?

How can his set list be criticised for not having enough hits for the 'casual' fans? Does anyone even remember Springsteen!

it's bizarre really, the setlist was packed full of stuff for casual fans

Stronger

Power

Niggas in Paris

Black Skinhead

Clique

Mercy

Heartless

Fourfive Seconds

Jesus Walks

Diamonds

Bound 2

Touch The Sky

All of the Lights

Good Life

Gold Digger

All Falls Down

So did Oasis in 04 and they were dogshit. Picking a setlist is the easy bit. Putting a show together around the tunes is more difficult. Which he didn't do. At all. Long long gaps between songs. Barely even a "this song is about...." from him. Just...... nothing......

Boring. Which is why so many casual fans left.

But then people actually moan when he does this? Like the people saying he went on and on about Kim and Lost in the World when really he spoke for just over a minutr about it.

A minute is possibly too long in fairness. Especially if its about a worthless celeb like his missus.

"Dead air" has been a no no in the entertainment business since the dawn of entertainment. I once (rather hilariously) saw Bruce Dickinson play the William Tell Overture on his cheeks into the mic when Maidens sound went tits up. At least he tried.

That was the worst gig Id ever seen from a major act. Up until last Saturday night.

it's almost as if people are just picking reasons for disliking it based on what he didn't do...

i'm sure if he had Big Sean or Pusha T up there with him, people would be moaning about them too...

He looks utterly spellbinding on the coverage shown on the beeb. I've watched it a couple of times now and it looks as if he's putting his heart and soul into and the crowd look as if they're going mental!!

To be honest, my actual recollection of it on the night is sketchy. I remember the crowd booing like made when he disappeared for a bit, but then I do remember loads of highlights. Black Skinhead and Power were especially brilliant.

I missed Gold Digger and All Falls Down as I bimbled up to Rum Shack to watch Mouse Outfit.

It's good to see plenty people enjoyed it on here though.

I know its mad! You'd swear he didn't do any of the below

 - Acknowledged that he was even at Glastonbury

 - Played the songs professionally

 - Had a complete "show" planned

 - Rehearsed sufficiently

 - Mumbled at his production team a lot e.g. "This isn't what we rehearsed backstage"

 - Had something, anything to entertain the crowd with between the very long gaps

 - Designed a setlist that didn't nose dive after 30 minutes leading to a mass walk out

etc etc

P.S. I was almost completely sober at the gig.

you cannot seriously enjoy it when acts come out with that crap between songs??

you must LOVE the flaming lips then!

I do love the Flaming Lips. Always great live. Always.

But it depends on the acts. If they're not comfortable doing it then something to keep peoples attention should be an option. A short video, a drum solo, a dj scratching, a beat, a hum, a fucking joke even!

This is the headline spot at Glasto. Minimise the dead air! If hes not capable of keeping a crowds attentions for 90 minutes (which he clearly couldn't) he shouldn't be up there. Should've been on the Other or 2nd or 3rd last on the Pyramid.

And the "greatest rock star" thing really made him look an even bigger tool than he is. Beyond funny, a bit pathetic really.

Truth of the matter which no one wants to acknowledge is that his music is only one of the many pies he has his fingers in. Hes equally as interested in his endorsements and clothing lines etc rather than putting together a decent show.

Maybe if he spent less time with his business managers flogging Adidas and $100 tshirts he may have had the time to rehearse a decent show. Like most bands I saw last week did.

For Gold Digger, he stopped the whole thing to say he needed to say something, then he said never mind and he'll just say it when the beat drops. He then restarted the song and when the beat dropped he shouted, 'YOU ARE NOW WATCHING THE GREATEST ROCK STAR IN THE WORLD!'

Nah Kanye, that's Van McCann.

I'm a very casual fan in that Yeezus is the only one of his albums I've heard all the way through and I don't know many of his singles by name, but watching it back I was surprised at how much of the set I knew. It was only the auto tune stuff I wasn't really familiar with.

He didn't explain the songs, except the one time that he did and it was about 30 seconds too long.

Well I didn't mean specifically explain what the songs are about, I just meant something in between songs. If theres going to be gaps, fill them.

fnarr fnarr

so the people who did enjoy, did so only because they knew his material?

you shouldn't need to know the songs to enjoy them. I saw some acts I'd never heard of before that were infinitely more enjoyable than Kanye was.

Exactly. The whole point of a casual fan like me going to see him was to (possibly) be turned on to his music as I'm not familiar with it. Its a festival gig. I've made the effort, show me what you're about.

    • Wednesday is a nice addition imo
    • Kronenberg in a tent as well IIRC but Brooklyn Pilsner was easier to get without queueing and was everywhere across the festival.
    • I think they'll end up doing something due to pressure and bad PR. Maybe they do a discount code for next year or bar credit or something along those lines.    I agree though. I acknowledge that the lineup is huge but surely you can't cancel 33% of the headliners and not reimburse in some way. Their insurance will probably cover their fees for MA, Doja, Bad Gyal and Mac DeMarco due to force majeure.
    • Looks like nothing for weekend ticket holders. You'd expect a goodwill gesture.
    • Enough has been covered about how much of a sh*t show that was, so I'll just say, Massive Attack and it's relationship with this festival (and potentially me) are f**king cursed.    They were announced in 2020 when I first got excited about seeing them. They were subsequently on the poster for 21, 22 and now 26. This time I was in actually in the crowd close to the stage waiting for them twice haha. I give up!
