Didn't watch kanye, I was at mothership giggling my bollocks off on mushrooms, but a few from my camp went, including a couple who were proper die hard fans, and they all came back thoroughly disappointed

What strikes me is even the fans here seem to accept it was shit, "but it was kanye so it was still good."

I'm still confused how he needed to restart songs? - Press play & sing at the right moment. Surely there wasn't much more to it than that?

think he only restarted when the bell came on stage?? and when he went on the cherry picker (i think that was planned?) .

dont know about any others. As for him restarting hes done it before. i went to see him when he had a live orchestra playing with him and he restarted a few tracks. hes a perfectionist. to a fault really.

'Hold my Liquor' was the only fuck up which really took away from the set massively. The restarts of 'Black Skinhead' and 'Touch the Sky' were a bit of an anti climax, but the crowd was deffo won back around near where I was standing (by the left hand screen about 50ft back). I can also understand why non-fans and casual fans wouldn't enjoy long autotune-heavy versions of 'Lost in the World' and 'Only One', but personally I thought they were some of his best moments.

Didn't see the who restart anything, but I only watched the first half hour then went to chems. I'd still forgive a live band (ish) for messing something up. Restarting a backing track is pretty unprofessional IMO. A little rehearsal for what was probably his biggest gig of the year wouldn't have gone a miss, especially as he's "a perfectionist" as the fans like to keep reminding us all

one thing i dont understand is when people say it "went downhill after the first few songs"? like where??  at the cruel summer stuff? Mercy is a brilliant track, yeah i guess he should have skipped clique it doesnt translate well to a festival (imo).

other than that?? skipped the chief keef cover? ok ill give you that too. maybe not worth it (i loved it). but maybe ppl didnt know the track.

as for I Wonder. WHAT A CHOICE! have you seen the lyrics?? definitely was in there for a reason. He rarely plays it but he played it at glastonbury. Dont think it was a coincidence.

Still cant believe i was there for the set. dont think ill ever forget it. as for the flag. wonder if they had a flag against downloading child porn? prob not i guess.

I agree (ish) but my gripe with Kanye was not the songs, but the structure of the set. By all means, have those songs, but don't have ALL of the more well-known songs that casual fans/curious attendees will know at the very start and end of the set. Cater for the die hard and the casual fans alike, give them something to keep them hanging around throughout.

I went to the loo after the Bon Iver appearance and it was deserted around the back. Mass exodus taking place, and it wasn't surprising.

He had a chance to prove all the doubters wrong, and he ultimatley failed at delivering a great headline set imo. in parts it was good, but there was no flow between songs, no crowd interaction. Poor setlist, Something a bit weird about a whole field of mixed races of people shouting "All Day Nigger". Lee Nelson is also the most unfunny person thats classed as a comedian. even seeing Bon iver, which should of been great was dissapointing

Poor setlist ?

Yes

the setlist was outstanding - for a Kanye fan (and casual listeners) i literally can't think of much else he could've done to make it better. played all the hits, a couple of fan favourites, and even FourFiveSeconds which he's never done before. what could he have added to make it better?

Through the wire.

Also you do know that a setlist is down to the order as much as the songs played? there was too much of a lul in the middle. People started talking around us when the autotune bit started. And that went on too long imo.

I was in a group of 30+ people, several die hard kanye fans, who were nothing but dissapointed.

Exactly what I said earlier: spread the hits out more. If you're indifferent or a casual fan, there was nothing for you (really) between the end of All Day and Jesus Walks.

nothing between end of all day and jesus walks??

so basically anything he released in the past 8 years?? o_O

Ultimately most people havnt paid attention to kanyes last two (excellent imo) albums. plus the little extras he did with cruel summer (i only really liked Mercy from that stuff). thus they would not have enjoyed the set. as someone said earlier, i thought the slower auto tuned tracks (lost in the world, hold my liquor) were really really good. Like any artist. if you are not into their stuff you wont enjoy a live set.

He should have played blood on the leaves fully and then im in it with bon iver.

heres the set list that would have had the casuel fans rocking. shall we say a "pharrell" set. i would have been disapointed but i think the haters would have been appeased.

and yet there was shitloads for casual fans there, certainly a lot more than most headliners of recent times.

other than the Jstin Vernon tracks, Cold and maybe New slaves, any casual fan should know the rest.

    • Another note, if I didn't mention the food in the arena for main stage is right at the back. Bands wise they do very well for but as a festival so far they pros are outweighed quite heavily currently for me.
    • On another note for RIP as an event, there is some good things but there are so many things people going to UK festivals would hate and how far behind they are.  Consistent network and water, beer and pretzel like food is brought around to buy in the crowds. Topping up on the wristband is good. The camping and food arrangement is not good, you really need cooking kit. Water points inside the arena are bonkers, water points in camping are a faff unless you are close enough in general camp. Merch stands are crazy. You MASSIVELY need to think about your lidl shop for camping and try and do it so you've one stop. It's definitely worth it getting to a camping shop here, picking up a rolley between your mates and stacking it for the walk back....lidl is cheap though, not hard getting in but Thursday queues getting in and into the camping is mad. You have to register first for a wristband as well leaving any bigger bags behind so pull to a side if only two and do it separately. I was joining a WhatsApp group for solo camp so went with the flow but I've learnt. Had it been me or just two my tent would have been down much quicker.  Big final note, I got a fresh and black 3 man from decathlon before coming and put in bigger suitcase with my airbed and sleeping bag...do this. Take a smaller option for your clothes. If you go to Munich first, book your train to Nuremberg as far in advance as you can....very important!....it hikes crazy. Probably bettee overall for baggage sizes to do BA both ways but you do then need to go back to Munich after too. Use the B&B hotel hbf the night before....its very nice, comfortable, cheap and within 10 minutes of the station which also serves as a transport stop 15 minutes from the registration.  Get up literally like 5am with everything back the night before, shower and go. Transport is free anyway for festival ticket holders during the duration.  Would I just choose to travel in each day and back to a hotel?, on the basis of sleep and getting accommodation cheap enough for 3 nights i might just do especially if I picked the ticket up early enough. It doesn't feel like a festival in a normal sense....unless you are in general yoi have to exit on the paths outside the camping to walk down and in which also applies for getting water so have a stock up. Toilets are in the camping.
